Abstract

Claims (57)

1. A method for performing e-commerce on a seller's website, comprising:

(a) maintaining on an e-commerce server a product database of products sold by a seller on a seller's website;

(b) providing a seller script that runs in a web browser for incorporation into at least one web page on the seller's website, each web page displaying at least one image, each image representing a media item maintained by the seller that may be incorporated into a product;

(c) in response to opening by a buyer's web browser a web page on the seller's website that incorporates the seller script, downloading upon execution of the seller script a dynamic page analyzer from the e-commerce server;

(d) executing the dynamic page analyzer by the web browser;

(e) adding, by the dynamic page analyzer, at least one control selectable by the buyer to the web page, each of the at least one controls being near a corresponding image, at least one of the at least one controls being an e-commerce control that corresponds to a product in the product database;

(f) in response to a selection of the e-commerce control by the buyer, displaying, by the web browser, a dynamic cart that enables the buyer to interactively specify an order for the product corresponding to the e-commerce control and to the image corresponding to the e-commerce control; and

(g) sending the specification of the order to the e-commerce server for fulfillment of the order.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein said media item is a digital media item and is selected from the group of digital media consisting of digital image, digital video, digital animation, text, and digital sound.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein said product is a license to use the digital media item under specified terms.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein said media item is a digital image provided by the seller and wherein said product is selected from the group consisting of a print of the digital image, a printed card that incorporates the digital image, an electronic card that incorporates the image, a mug that incorporates a print of the digital image, and a t-shirt that incorporates a print of the digital image.

5. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

(h) maintaining a buyer database comprising records of buyers, each record including method of payment information; and

(i) using the buyer's method of payment information to electronically obtain payment for the order.

6. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

(h) maintaining a fulfillment database comprising records of fulfillment services that may be used to fulfill an order, each record including (1) information specifying how to electronically interact with the fulfillment service to use services provided by the fulfillment service, (2) a specification of the types of products that the fulfillment service can fulfill;

(i) selecting at least one fulfillment service to fulfill the order based on the products included in the order; and

(j) electronically placing a work order with each of the at least one selected fulfillment services to fulfill the order, each work order specifying the work to be performed by the fulfillment service.

7. The method of claim 1 . further comprising a seller portal that enables the seller to specify from a list of available products which products to enable the buyer to order.

8. The method of claim 1 . further comprising:

(h) maintaining a community database that stores information about buyers' interest in each product; and

(i) enabling the seller to view information regarding buyers' interest in each product.

9. The method of claim 1 . further comprising enabling the seller to specify whether the at least one control should be positioned above or below its corresponding image.

10. The method of claim 1 further comprising enabling the seller to specify a minimum image dimension such that none of the at least one controls are added near an image whose height or width is less than the minimum image dimension.

11. The method of claim 1 wherein one of the at lest one controls enables the buyer to select the corresponding image as a favorite.

12. The method of claim 11 further comprising enabling a buyer to view information for each image the buyer has selected as a favorite.

13. The method of claim 11 further comprising adding a link in the buyer's social network account to each image the buyer selects as a favorite.

14. A system for performing e-commerce on a seller's website, comprising:

(a) an e-commerce server for:

maintaining a product database of products sold by a seller on a seller's website; and

providing a seller script that runs in a web browser for incorporation into at least one web page on the seller's website, each web page displaying at least one image, each image representing a media item maintained by the seller that may be incorporated into a product;

(b) a buyer web browser for, upon opening a web page on the seller website that incorporates the seller script, downloading, upon execution of the seller script, a dynamic page analyzer from the e-commerce server;

(c) a dynamic page analyzer for adding at least one control selectable by the buyer to the web page, each of the at least one controls being near a corresponding image, at least one of the at least one controls being an e-commerce control that corresponds to a product in the product database;

(d) in response to a selection of the e-commerce control by the buyer, for:

displaying, by the buyer web browser, a dynamic cart that enables the buyer to interactively specify an order for the product corresponding to the e-commerce control and to the image corresponding to the e-commerce control; and

sending the specification of the order to the e-commerce server for fulfillment of the order.

15. The system of claim 14 wherein said media item is a digital media item and is selected from the group of digital media consisting of digital image, digital video, digital animation, text, and digital sound.

16. The system of claim 15 wherein said product is a license to use the digital media item under specified terms.

17. The system of claim 14 wherein said media item is a digital image provided by the seller and wherein said product is selected from the group consisting of a print of the digital image, a printed card that incorporates the digital image, an electronic card that incorporates the image, a mug that incorporates a print of the digital image, and a t-shirt that incorporates a print of the digital image.

18. The system of claim 14 further comprising:

an e-commerce server for:

maintaining a buyer database comprising records of buyers, each record including method of payment information; and

using the buyer's method of payment information to electronically obtain payment for the order.

19. The system of claim 14 further comprising:

an e-commerce server for:

maintaining a fulfillment database comprising records of fulfillment services that may be used to fulfill an order, each record including (1) information specifying how to electronically interact with the fulfillment service to use services provided by the fulfillment service, (2) a specification of the types of products that the fulfillment service can fulfill;

selecting at least one fulfillment service to fulfill the order based on the products included in the order; and

electronically placing a work order with each of the at least one selected fulfillment services to fulfill the order, each work order specifying the work to be performed by the fulfillment service.

20. The system of claim 14 further comprising a seller portal for enabling the seller to specify from a list of available products which products to enable the buyer to order.

21. The system of claim 14 further comprising a seller portal for enabling the seller to specify whether the at least one control should be positioned above or below its corresponding image.

22. The system of claim 14 further comprising:

an e-commerce server for maintaining a community database that stores information about buyer's interest in each product; and

a seller portal for viewing information regarding buyer's interest in each product.

23. The system of claim 14 further comprising a seller portal for enabling the seller to specify a minimum image dimension such that none of the at least one controls added near an image whose height or width is less than the minimum image dimension.

24. The system of claim 14 wherein one of the at least one controls enables the buyer to select the corresponding image as a favorite.

25. The system of claim 24 further comprising a buyer portal for enabling a buyer to view information for each Image the buyer has selected as a favorite.

26. The system of claim 14 further comprising an e-commerce server for adding a link in the buyer's social network account to each image the buyer selects as a favorite.
