Abstract

A method for the determination of a progressive ophthalmic lens for a given wearer comprises the states of: determining the axial length (LA) of the wearer's eye, determining an ergorama associating a sight point with each direction of viewing under wearing conditions, determining power and resulting astigmatism defect targets for each direction of viewing under wearing conditions, the targets being a function of the axial length of the wearer's eye, calculating the power required on the lens for each direction of viewing by successive iterations in order to obtain the target power defect and the target resulting astigmatism.

Claims (23)

1. A progressive ophthalmic lens personalized for the needs of a wearer, the lens comprising:

a distribution of power defect and a distribution of resulting astigmatism depending on the axial length of the wearer's eye, wherein the axial length is determined based on the radius of the wearer's cornea and the wearer's far vision prescription.

2. A visual device comprising at least one lens according to claim 1 .

3. A method for correcting the vision of a presbyopic subject, which comprises providing the subject with, or the wearing by the subject of, a device according to claim 2 .

4. The progressive ophthalmic lens of claim 1 , wherein the radius of the wearer's cornea is determined using a manual keratometer.

5. The progressive ophthalmic lens of claim 1 , wherein the radius of the wearer's cornea is determined using an autorefractor.

6. The progressive ophthalmic lens of claim 1 , wherein the wearer is hypermetropic.

7. The progressive ophthalmic lens of claim 1 , wherein the wearer is myopic.

8. The progressive ophthalmic lens of claim 1 , wherein the lens is optimized using the distribution of power defect and the distribution of resulting astigmatism and based on the center of rotation for the wearer's eye determined from the axial length of the wearer's eye.

9. The progressive ophthalmic lens of claim 1 , wherein the axial length is determined using the equation, LA/kerato=−0.05446A FV +2.9988, wherein LA represents the axial length of the wearer's eye, kerato represents the radius of the wearer's cornea, and A FV represents the wearer's far vision prescription.

10. A progressive ophthalmic lens personalized for the needs of a wearer, the lens comprising:

a distribution of power and resulting astigmatism defect gradients and a distribution of power and resulting astigmatism defect field widths, the gradients and the field widths being a function of the axial length of the wearer's eye.

11. The progressive ophthalmic lens of claim 10 , wherein the field widths are broadened to provide visual comfort to the wearer, the axial length of the wearer's eye being longer than an average emmetrope eye.

12. The progressive ophthalmic lens of claim 10 , wherein the gradients are weakened to provide visual comfort to the wearer, the axial length of the wearer's eye being shorter than an average emmetrope eye.

13. The progressive ophthalmic lens of claim 10 , wherein the lens is optimized under wearing conditions using the gradients and fields widths and the center of rotation for the wearer's eye, the center of rotation for the wearer's eye being determined from the axial length of the wearer's eye.

14. The progressive ophthalmic lens of claim 10 , wherein the axial length of the wearer's eye is determined from the wearer's far vision prescription.

15. The progressive ophthalmic lens of claim 14 , wherein the axial length is determined using the equation, LA=31 0.299A FV +23.58, wherein LA represents the axial length of the wearer's eye and A Fv represents the wearer's far vision prescription.

16. The progressive ophthalmic lens of claim 10 , wherein the gradients are strengthened to provide visual comfort to the wearer, the axial length of the wearer's eye being longer than an average emmetrope eye.

17. The progressive ophthalmic lens of claim 10 , wherein the field widths are reduced to provide visual comfort to the wearer, the axial length of the wearer's eye being shorter than an average emmetrope eye.

18. The progressive ophthalmic lens of claim 10 , wherein the axial length of the wearer's eye is determined from the wearer's far vision prescription and the radius of the wearer's cornea.

19. The progressive ophthalmic lens of claim 10 , wherein the gradients and field widths are determined for different directions of viewing.

20. A progressive ophthalmic lens personalized for the needs of a wearer, the lens comprising:

a distribution of power defect and a distribution of resulting astigmatism determined directly from the axial length of the wearer's eye, wherein the axial length is determined directly from the wearer's far vision prescription.
