Abstract

System and methods of use are discloses that default routing of an ID read by an ID reader as part of a purchase transaction in a retail store, to a first computer system (MCS) instead of the POS computer system for the retail store, the first computer system processes the ID, and the POS computer system receives the results of the processing in the form of a IDs recognizable by the POS computer system and for which the POS computer system has associated costs.

Claims (51)

1. An MCS for processing purchase transaction data, said MCS comprising:

an MCS CPU;

an MCS first input configured to receive an identification read by an ID reader;

an MCS first output configured to output digital data; and

an MCS memory configured to store a data structure that comprises a plurality of couponIDs each in association with a corresponding price lookup identification, said data structure including a first couponID in association with a first price lookup identification, wherein said first couponID is different from said first price lookup identification;

wherein said MCS CPU is configured to:

transmit digital data that includes the identification to the MCS first output when the identification received by said MCS first input defines a product identification and

transmit digital data that includes the first product lookup identification to the MCS first output when the identification received by said MCS first input defines said first couponID.

2. The marketing computer system of claim 1 , wherein the price lookup identification is associated with a cost value and not a product sold.

3. The marketing computer system of claim 1 , further comprising:

an MCS second input configured to receive transaction information, wherein the MCS CPU is further configured to determine whether a transaction is complete based on the transaction information.

4. The marketing computer system of claim 3 , wherein the transaction information comprises:

register receipt information from a point a sale printer, or

sensor information that indicates when a cash register drawer opens.

5. The marketing computer system of claim 3 , wherein the MCS CPU is further configured to:

determine a coupon based on whether a product was part of the completed transaction or a prior transaction before the completed transaction.

6. The marketing computer system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a customer input/output component configured to communicate a discount to a customer or receive input from the customer.

7. The marketing computer system of claim 6 , wherein the customer input/output component is further configured to receive a customer identification.

8. The marketing computer system of claim 1 , wherein the MCS CPU is coupled to a central computer system, the MCS CPU further configured to:

receive, from the central computer system, a couponID or a term or condition associated with the couponID.

9. The marketing computer system of claim 1 , wherein the MCS CPU is coupled to a point of sale computer system and a central computer system, the MCS CPU further configured to:

receive transaction data from the point of sale computer system;

communicate the transaction data to the central computer system; and

receive information associated with whether the transaction data meets a term or condition of a coupon from the central computer system.

10. A method for processing purchase transaction data, comprising:

receiving, at an MCS first input, an identification read by an ID reader;

outputting, at an MCS first output, digital data;

accessing, from an MCS memory, a data structure that comprises a plurality of couponIDs each in association with a corresponding price lookup identification, the data structure including a first couponID in association with a first price lookup identification, wherein the first couponID is different from the first price lookup identification;

transmitting, by an MCS CPU, digital data that includes the identification to the MCS first output when the identification received by the MCS first input defines a product identification; and

transmitting, by the MCS CPU, digital data that includes the first product lookup identification to the MCS first output when the identification received by the MCS first input defines the first couponID.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the price lookup identification is associated with a cost value and not a product sold.

12. The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

receiving, at an MCS second input transaction information; and

determining, by the MCS CPU, whether a transaction is complete based on the transaction information.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the transaction information comprises:

register receipt information from a point a sale printer, or

sensor information that indicates when a cash register drawer opens.

14. The method of claim 12 , further comprising:

determining, by the MCS CPU, a coupon based on whether a product was part of the completed transaction or a prior transaction before the completed transaction.

15. The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

communicating, at a customer input/output component, a discount to a customer; or

receiving, at the customer input/output, input from the customer.

16. The method of claim 15 , further comprising:

receiving, at the customer input/output component, a customer identification.

17. The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

receiving, from a central computer system, a couponID or a term or condition associated with the couponID.

18. The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

receiving transaction data from the point of sale computer system;

communicating the transaction data to the central computer system; and

receiving information associated with whether the transaction data meets a term or condition of a coupon from the central computer system.
