Abstract

In a network of mobile agents, data integrity can be improved by providing an agent server that can migrate between devices operating in the region of interest (ROI). The agent server distributes agent clients onto devices in the ROI and provides agent server services to the agent clients, including receiving and storing data from the agents. When the agent server device is to leave the ROI, the agent server can migrate to any device executing an agent client and continue to provide the agent server services, including data collection and aggregation, from the device to which the agent server has migrated.

Claims (48)

1. A method, comprising:

executing an instance of an agent server on a first mobile device geographically located in a region of interest;

storing data received from at least one instance of an agent client executing on a first client device with the instance of the agent server executing on the first mobile device;

migrating the instance of the agent server executing on the first mobile device and the stored data to a second mobile device geographically located in the region of interest before the first mobile device leaves the region of interest; and

distributing a second instance of the agent client to a second client device from the instance of the agent server executing on the first mobile device;

wherein the second client device is configured to store an association between an identity of the instance of the agent server with an identity of the first mobile device;

wherein the second client device is configured to update the association such that the identity of the instance of the agent server is associated with an identity of the second mobile device after migrating the instance of the agent server to the second mobile device; and

wherein migrating the instance of the agent server from the first mobile device to the second mobile device comprises terminating any instance of an agent client executing on the second mobile device.

2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the second client device is geographically located within the region of interest.

3. The method according to claim 1 , comprising:

receiving an agent client participation request at the first mobile device executing the instance of the agent server from the second client device; and

distributing the second instance of an agent client from the first mobile device executing the instance of the agent server to the second client device in response to receiving the agent client participation request.

4. The method according to claim 1 , comprising storing at the first mobile device executing the instance of the agent server at least one association between any instance of any agent client with a corresponding device executing the any instance of the any agent client.

5. The method according to claim 4 , wherein migrating the instance of the agent server to the second mobile device comprises migrating the at least one association to the second mobile device.

6. The method according to claim 1 , wherein migrating the instance of the agent server to the second mobile device occurs in response to determining that the second mobile device is eligible to host the instance of the agent server.

7. The method according to claim 6 , wherein determining that the second mobile device is eligible to host the instance of the agent server comprises:

transmitting an agent server participation request to the second mobile device; and

receiving an agent server participation response from the second mobile device.

8. The method according to claim 1 , wherein migrating the instance of the agent server from the first mobile device to the second mobile device comprises transmitting a serialized instance of the agent server from the first mobile device to the second mobile device.

9. The method according to claim 1 , wherein migrating the instance of the agent server from the first mobile device to the second mobile device comprises terminating execution of the instance of the agent server on the first mobile device.

10. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the first mobile device, the client device, or the second mobile device comprise a location detection circuit configured to determine a geographic location of a corresponding device.

11. The method according to claim 10 , wherein the location detection circuit comprises a ground positioning system (GPS), a cellular system, near field radio, a digital camera, a video camera, or triangulation circuitry.

12. A mobile apparatus, comprising:

a memory device configured to store instructions that implement an agent server; and

a processing device configured to execute the instructions stored in the memory device to execute the agent server;

wherein the agent server is configured to:

define a region of interest in response to establishing a geographical location of the apparatus;

provide at least one agent server service to a first instance of an agent client executing on a first client device geographically located in the region of interest;

receive data from the first client device;

migrate execution of the agent server and the data to a second mobile apparatus prior to the mobile apparatus leaving the region of interest;

distribute a second instance of the agent client to a second client device; and

terminate any instance of the agent client executing on the second mobile apparatus;

wherein the second client device is configured to store an association between the agent server and the mobile apparatus; and

wherein the second client device is configured to update the association such that the agent server is associated with the second mobile apparatus after migrating execution of the agent server and the data to the second mobile apparatus.

13. The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the second client device is geographically located within the region of interest.

14. The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the agent server is further configured to provide a serialized instance of the agent server to the second mobile apparatus.

15. The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the agent server is further configured to notify the first agent client executing on the first client device of an association between the agent server and the second mobile apparatus.

16. A memory device having instructions stored thereon that, in response to execution by a processing device, causes the processing device to perform operations comprising:

executing an instance of an agent server on a first mobile device geographically located in a region of interest;

storing data received from a first instance of an agent client executing on a first client device with the instance of the agent server executing on the first mobile device;

migrating the instance of the agent server executing on the first mobile device and the stored data to a second mobile device geographically located in the region of interest prior to the first mobile device leaving the region of interest; and

distributing at least another instance of the agent client to a second client device from the instance of the agent server executing on the first mobile device;

wherein the second client device is configured to store an association between the agent server and the first mobile device;

wherein the second client device is configured to update the association such that the agent server is associated with the second mobile device after migrating the instance of the agent server to the second mobile device; and

wherein migrating the instance of the agent server from the first mobile device to the second mobile device comprises terminating any instance of an agent client executing on the second mobile device.

17. The memory device of claim 16 , wherein execution of the instructions causes the processing device to perform operations further comprising terminating execution of the instance of the agent client on the first agent device.

18. The memory device of claim 16 , wherein execution of the instructions causes the processing device to perform operations further comprising transmitting an agent server reset message to the first mobile device that causes an association between the at least one instance of the agent server and the first mobile device.

19. The memory device of claim 16 , wherein execution of the instructions causes the processing device to perform operations further comprising providing at least one agent server service to the first instance of the agent client executing on the first client device.
