Abstract

Described herein are implantable composites, articles comprising the composites, implant devices comprising the composites, and methods of making and using same, including point of use methods.

Claims (17)

1. An implantable composite comprising: a solid tacky biocompatible polymer film comprising a releasable bioactive agent; and a release liner affixed or adhered to the solid tacky biocompatible polymer film; wherein the solid tacky biocompatible polymer film comprises an adhesive polymer having a T g less than room temperature and comprises a terpolymer of lactide, glycolide and caprolactone residues, and wherein the amount of lactide residue in the terpolymer is from 10 to 31 mole percent, the amount of glycolide in the terpolymer is from 10 to 40 mole percent, and the amount of caprolactone in the terpolymer is at least 49 mole percent.

2. The implantable composite of claim 1 , wherein the implantable composite has a length dimension and a width dimension, wherein the length dimension is substantially the same as the width dimension.

3. The implantable composite of claim 1 , wherein the implantable composite has a shape that is not rectangular.

4. The implantable composite of claim 1 , wherein the bioactive agent is encapsulated within a microparticle.

5. The implantable composite of claim 1 , wherein the bioactive agent comprises at least one of an antibiotic, antimicrobial, a growth factor, a growth inhibitor, an immunomodulator, a steroid, or an anti-inflammatory.

6. An article comprising a plurality of implantable composites according to claim 1 each comprising a biocompatible polymer film comprising a releasable bioactive agent; and one or more release liners affixed or adhered to each implantable composite.

7. The article of claim 6 , wherein the biocompatible polymer film has at least a first surface comprising an adhesive on at least a portion thereof, wherein the release liner is affixed to the adhesive.

8. The article of claim 6 , wherein the implantable composite has a length dimension and a width dimension, wherein the length dimension is substantially the same as the width dimension.

9. The article of claim 6 , wherein the implantable composite has a shape that is not rectangular.

10. The article of claim 6 , wherein the bioactive agent is encapsulated within a microparticle.

11. The article of claim 6 , wherein the bioactive agent comprises at least one of an antibiotic, antimicrobial, a growth factor, a growth inhibitor, an immunomodulator, a steroid, or an anti-inflammatory.

12. An implant device having a first implant device surface comprising an implantable composite affixed or adhered to at least a portion of the first implant device surface, wherein the implantable composite comprises a solid tacky biocompatible polymer film comprising a releasable bioactive agent, and a release liner affixed or adhered to the solid tacky biocompatible polymer film, and wherein the solid tacky biocompatible polymer film comprises an adhesive polymer having a T g less than room temperature and comprises a terpolymer of lactide, glycolide and caprolactone residues, and wherein the amount of lactide residue in the terpolymer is from 10 to 31 mole percent, the amount of glycolide in the terpolymer is from 10 to 40 mole percent, and the amount of caprolactone in the terpolymer is at least 49 mole percent.

13. The implant device of claim 12 , wherein the solid tacky biocompatible polymer film is adhered to the implant device surface through the adhesive.

14. The implant device of claim 12 , wherein the implantable composite has a length dimension and a width dimension, wherein the length dimension is substantially the same as the width dimension.

15. The implant device of claim 12 , wherein the implantable composite has a shape that is not rectangular.

16. The implant device of claim 12 , wherein the bioactive agent is encapsulated within a microparticle.

17. The implant device of claim 12 , wherein the bioactive agent comprises at least one of an antibiotic, antimicrobial, a growth factor, a growth inhibitor, an immunomodulator, a steroid, or an anti-inflammatory.
