Abstract

An injection device including a housing, a needle guard sleeve displaceable relative to the housing, and a spring coupled to the guard sleeve such that the guard sleeve can be moved by the spring distally from a proximal position to an end position, the spring also being coupled to a forward drive element displaceable relative to the housing in a drive direction wherein the spring is tensioned upon a movement of the forward drive element in the forward drive direction.

Claims (28)

1. An injection device comprising:

a) a housing enclosing a product container connected to an injection needle;

b) an activating element shiftable relative to the housing from an initial position in which the activating element protects the injection needle to a proximal position to permit manual injection of the injection needle;

(c) an advancing member shiftable relative to the housing in an advancing direction, said advancing member comprising a hollow piston rod with a delivery spring fixed thereon, said piston rod acting on a piston to shift it relative to the product container;

d) a restoring spring for shifting the activating element distally from the proximal position to an end position; wherein

e) the restoring spring has one end supported on the activating element and another end supported on an element connected to the piston rod, such that the restoring spring is tensed by a first amount when the activating element moves from the initial position to the proximal position, and the movement of the advancing member in the advancing direction, driven by relaxation of the delivery spring, simultaneously advances the piston rod for product delivery and moves the element connected to the piston rod in a direction that increases the tension in the restoring spring to cause a force greater than the force initially acting on the activating element.

2. The injection device according to claim 1 , wherein in its end position, the activating element protrudes distally beyond a distal end of the housing.

3. The injection device according to claim 1 , wherein the activating element is a needle protecting sleeve which in its end position protrudes beyond the distal end of an injection needle carried by the injection device.

4. The injection device according to claim 1 , wherein the activating element is moveable in the proximal direction from the initial position, in which the activating element protrudes distally beyond the distal end of the housing, to the proximal position which comprises an activating position.

5. The injection device according to claim 4 , wherein the restoring spring is tensed by a second amount based on a distance the advancing member moves in the advancing direction from an initial position.

6. The injection device according to claim 5 , wherein in its end position, the activating element protrudes distally beyond the distal end of the housing by a greater amount than in its initial position.

7. The injection device according to claim 1 , wherein in its end position, the activating element is latched, axially fixed, relative to the housing.

8. The injection device according to claim 1 , wherein the piston arranged in the product container can be shifted relative to the housing by the advancing member.

9. The injection device according to claim 8 , wherein the advancing member comprises an advancing element by which the product container can be shifted relative to the housing.

10. The injection device according to claim 9 , wherein the product container can be shifted distally from an initial position into an end position, wherein in the end position, the injection needle arranged on the product container protrudes distally beyond the distal end of the injection device.

11. The injection device according to claim 10 , wherein the piston rod can be shifted relative to the advancing element.

12. The injection device according to claim 11 , further comprising a releasing member which can block the relative movement between the piston rod and the advancing element.

13. A method for operating an injection device, said device comprising:

a) a housing enclosing a product container connected to an injection needle;

b) an activating element shiftable relative to the housing from an initial position to a proximal position to permit manual injection of the injection needle;

(c) an advancing member shiftable relative to the housing in an advancing direction, said advancing member comprising a hollow piston rod with a delivery spring fixed thereon, said piston rod acting on a piston to shift it relative to the product container;

d) a restoring spring for shifting the activating element distally from the proximal position to an end position; wherein

e) the restoring spring has one end supported on the activating element and another end supported on an element connected to the piston rod, such that the restoring spring is tensed by a first amount when the activating element moves from the initial position to the proximal position,

wherein the delivery spring shifts the advancing member for product injection movement or a product delivery in an advancing direction relative to a housing and thereby simultaneously tenses the restoring spring to increase the tension in the restoring spring to cause a force greater than the force initially acting on the activating element, wherein the activating element is shifted by the tensed spring from an activating position into an end position.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein when the activating element is shifted by the tensed spring into an end position, it is latched, axially fixed, relative to the housing.

15. The method of claim 13 wherein the activating element is a needle protecting sleeve.

16. The method of claim 13 further comprising, pressing the injection device against the patient activates the needle protecting sleeve to enable manual injection of the needle.

17. The method of claim 13 further comprising, activating a triggering element to release a blocking connection that prevents the piston rod from moving in a delivery direction.
