Abstract

A continuous baler includes a round baler and an accumulation conveyor for providing crop to the round baler. The accumulation conveyor may include a conveyor belt. A controller may determine an operational mode of the baler and manipulate the accumulation conveyor in response to the operational mode. For example, the controller may be configured to operate the accumulation conveyor in a feed direction during a bale-forming mode of the baler and operate the conveyor from an initialized position at a coincident speed during a non-bale-forming mode. A pickup may provide crop material to the accumulation conveyor during both bale-forming and non-bale-forming modes.

Claims (20)

1. A baling apparatus, comprising:

a pickup for picking up crop material from the ground;

a baler configured to form crop material into a bale and operate in a plurality of operational modes, including a bale-forming mode and a non-bale-forming mode;

an accumulation conveyor configured to receive the crop material from the pickup and accumulate the crop material thereon during the non-bale-forming mode of the baler, the accumulation conveyor extending from the pickup to an inlet of a bale forming chamber;

a controller configured to determine an operational mode of the baler and configured to:

operate the accumulation conveyor in a feed direction at a first speed during the bale-forming mode of the baler;

rewind the accumulation conveyor to an initialized position in response to completion of the bale forming mode so that a point on the conveyor proximate the inlet of the baling chamber at the completion of the bale forming mode is moved proximate the pickup; and

operate the accumulation conveyor during a non-bale-forming mode of the baler from the initialized position at a second speed such that the point proximate the pickup is proximate the inlet at start of a new bale-forming mode.

2. The baling apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the second speed is slower than the first speed.

3. The baling apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the controller is further configured to operate the accumulation conveyor at the first speed in the feed direction upon completion of the non-bale forming mode.

4. The baling apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the accumulation conveyor extends forward of a housing of the baler to accumulate crop material forward of a housing of the baler.

5. The baling apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to determine said second speed.

6. The baling apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the accumulation conveyor comprising a conveyor belt having a portion extending forward of a frame of the baler and a portion within the baler frame.

7. A baling apparatus, comprising:

a baler having a frame and configured to form crop material into a bale and operate in a plurality of operational modes, including a bale-forming mode and a non-bale forming mode;

an accumulation conveyor configured to accumulate crop material forward of the frame;

a pickup configured to provide crop material to the accumulation conveyor during the non-bale-forming mode to accumulate crop material forward of the baler housing during the non-bale-forming mode; and

a controller configured to determine an operational mode of the baler and operate the accumulation conveyor in a feed direction at a first speed during the bale-forming mode and at a second speed during the non-bale-forming mode, wherein the controller is configured to rewind the accumulation conveyor to an initialized position in response to start of non-bale-forming mode.

8. The baling apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the pickup is configured to continuously provide crop material to the accumulation conveyor during both the bale-forming mode and the non-bale-forming mode.

9. The baling apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the accumulation conveyor comprises a conveyor belt having a portion extending forward of the frame and a portion within the baler frame.
