Abstract

A novel method and apparatus for recording an audio note for a voice message stored on a messaging platform are disclosed.

Claims (42)

1. A method for playing a recorded audio note associated with a voice message, the method causing a computing device to perform steps comprising:

receiving from a user a request for a voice message;

retrieving a recorded audio note from a header of the voice message, the audio note generated according to steps comprising:

(1) recording an audio note received from a subscriber via a subscriber device associated with the voice message, and

(2) inserting the audio note into a header of the voice message; and

presenting the recorded audio note to the user.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the audio note is generated by steps further comprising, prior to recording the audio note:

receiving a record command from the subscriber device while playing the voice message; and

in response to the record command, suspending playback of the voice message.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the audio note is generated by steps further comprising completing playback of the voice message after recording the audio note.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the audio note and the voice message is stored in compressed digital format.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the audio note is generated by steps further comprising playing the recorded audio note from a messaging platform through the network after recording the audio note.

6. The method of claim 2 , further comprising the additional step of resuming play of the voice message from a point near a point of suspension of the voice message, after the recording step.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein presenting the audio note is suspended upon detection of a verbal command.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein presenting the audio note is suspended upon detection of a pressed phone key.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the recording step is executed upon detection that a verbal command was issued.

10. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions which, when executed by a computing device, cause the computing device to play a recorded audio note associated with a voice message, the voice message stored on a messaging platform, the instructions comprising:

receiving from a user a request for a voice message;

retrieving a recorded audio note from a header of the voice message, the audio note generated according to steps comprising:

(1) recording an audio note received from a subscriber via a subscriber device associated with the voice message, and

(2) inserting the audio note into a header of the voice message; and

presenting the recorded audio note to the user.

11. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 10 , the instructions further comprising, prior to recording the audio note:

beginning playing back the voice message;

detecting speech energy from at least one subscriber device during playback; and

halting playback of the voice message.

12. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 10 , the instructions further comprising completing playback of the voice message after recording the speech.

13. A system for playing a recorded audio note associated with a voice message, the system comprising:

a processor;

a first module controlling the processor to receive from a user a request for a voice message;

a second module controlling the processor to retrieve a recorded audio note from a header of the voice message, the audio note generated according to steps comprising:

(1) recording an audio note received from a subscriber via a subscriber device associated with the voice message, and

(2) inserting the audio note into a header of the voice message; and

a third module controlling the processor to present the recorded audio note to the user.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the audio note is generated by steps further comprising:

playing the at least one voice message from the at least one memory to a subscriber;

receiving a record command from the subscriber; and

in response to the record command, suspending the play of the voice message.

15. The system of claim 13 , wherein the audio note is generated by steps further comprising completing the playing of the voice message after completion of the recording of the audio note.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the audio note is generated by steps further comprising resuming playback of the at least one voice message from a point near a point of suspension of the voice message, after recording.

17. The system of claim 15 , wherein playback of the voice message is suspended upon detection of a verbal command.

18. The system of claim 15 , wherein playback of the voice message is suspended upon detection of a pressed phone key.
