Abstract

In order to compensate for chromatic dispersion ad dispersion slope over an entire wavelength band of the optical signal, the wavelength band is split into a plurality of bands, and chromatic dispersion compensation is made to make chromatic dispersion in a central wavelength of each of the bands zero.

Claims (25)

1. A chromatic dispersion compensating apparatus for use in a wavelength-division multiplexed optical transmission system, comprising:

a band splitting unit which splits a wavelength-division multiplexed optical signal into a plurality of wavelength bands;

a fixed dispersion compensating unit making compensation for residual dispersion for split wavelength-division multiplexed optical signals; and

an interleaving unit, which is arranged at a stage before said band splitting unit, which separates the wavelength-division multiplexed optical signal into odd-numbered channels and even-numbered channels, and converts the wavelength-division multiplexed optical signal into a plurality of optical signals whose channel intervals are widened.

2. The chromatic dispersion compensating apparatus according to claim 1 , is arranged within an optical receiver.

3. The chromatic dispersion compensating apparatus according to claim 1 , is arranged within an inline amplifier.

4. The chromatic dispersion compensating apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein

the inline dispersion compensation makes 105- to 120-percent compensation for chromatic dispersion that a received wavelength multiplexed optical signal undergoes.

5. A chromatic dispersion compensating apparatus for use in a wavelength-division multiplexed optical transmission system, comprising:

an interleaving unit, which is arranged at a stage before a variable dispersion compensating unit, which separates the wavelength-division multiplexed optical signal into odd-numbered channels and even-numbered channels, and converts the wavelength-division multiplexed optical signal into a plurality of optical signals whose channel intervals are widened;

the variable dispersion compensating unit which makes dispersion compensation simultaneously for a part of a wavelength multiplexed optical signal;

an optical splitting unit which splits the wavelength multiplexed optical signal; and

a fixed dispersion compensating unit which makes compensation for residual dispersion for an optical signal of each split channel.

6. The chromatic dispersion compensating apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein

said optical splitting unit splits the wavelength-division multiplexed optical signal into a plurality of wavelength bands.

7. The chromatic dispersion compensating apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein

said optical splitting unit splits the wavelength multiplexed optical signal into optical signals of respective channels.

8. The chromatic dispersion compensating apparatus according to claim 5 , is arranged within an optical receiver.

9. The chromatic dispersion compensating apparatus according to claim 5 , is arranged within an inline amplifier.

10. The chromatic dispersion compensating apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein

the inline dispersion compensation makes 105- to 120-percent compensation for chromatic dispersion that a received wavelength multiplexed optical signal undergoes.

11. A chromatic dispersion compensating apparatus for use in a wavelength multiplexed optical transmission system, comprising:

a band splitting unit splitting a wavelength-division multiplexed optical signal into a plurality of wavelength bands;

a dispersion compensating unit reducing a residual dispersion difference between bands for respective split wavelength bands, wherein said dispersion compensating unit is a fixed dispersion compensator; and

an interleaving unit, which is arranged at a stage before said band splitting unit, which separates the wavelength-division multiplexed optical signal into odd-numbered channels and even-numbered channels, and converts the wavelength-division multiplexed optical signal into a plurality of optical signals whose channel intervals are widened.
