Seedless pepper plant
View Patent ↗The present invention generally relates to seedless pepper (SLP); and more specifically, it pertains to male sterile pepper plants having unique characteristics including the capability of growing edible seedless fruits, wherein the “seedless” trait is controlled by a genetic determinant independent of exogenous factors.
1. Seed for growing a hybrid pepper plant selected from the group consisting of a hybrid pepper deposited under NCIMB 41558, NCIMB 41559, NCIMB 41560, NCIMB 41561 and NCIMB 41562.
2. A pepper plant, which is selected from the group consisting of a hybrid pepper designated Capsicum annuum AR07-F1-56-b; Capsicum annuum AR07-F1-87-b; Capsicum annuum AR07-F1-166-b; Capsicum annuum AR07-F1-171-X; and Capsicum annuum AR07-F1-172-X, grown from seeds deposited with NCIMB, Aberdeen AB21 9YA, Scotland, UK on May 26, 2008 under accession number NCIMB 41558, NCIMB 41559, NCIMB 41560, NCIMB 41561 and NCIMB 41562, respectively.
3. A pepper plant according to claim 2 , wherein fruit setting starts at the first nodes of a branch and progresses along the length of the entire branch.
4. A pepper plant according to claim 3 , wherein said plant grows two fruits per node in about 20% of the nodes.
5. The plant according to claim 2 , wherein said plant grows a sweet pepper selected from the group consisting of a conical pepper, a long conical pepper and a blocky-type pepper.
6. The plant according to claim 2 , which grows pepper fruits which are red pigmented in the mature and dark green pigmented in the premature or unripe stage.
7. Plant material obtained from a plant according to claim 2 .
8. Plant parts of a plant according to claim 2 .
9. A fruit of a plant according to claim 2 .
10. A fruit according to claim 9 which is a processed fruit.
