Abstract

An optical recording medium includes a first half-disc and a second half-disc. The first half-disc includes a substrate and an information layer (including a reflective layer) formed on a first side of the substrate. The second half-disc is bonded by an adhesive to a second side of the substrate of the first half-disc. In addition, a cover layer is formed over the first reflective layer. The cover layer has a thickness of approximately 0.1 mm. The substrate of the first half-disc has a thickness in a range of 0.3 mm to 1.0 mm. The first and second half-discs together have a combined thickness in a range of 0.8 mm to 1.3 mm.

Claims (10)

1. An optical storage medium comprising:

a first half disc including a first injection molded substrate having a thickness of approximately 0.6 mm and having a first data pit pattern embossed in a side of the first injection molded substrate, a first reflective layer formed over the first data pit pattern, and a first cover layer formed over the first reflective layer;

a second half disc including a second injection molded substrate having a thickness of approximately 0.6 mm and having a second data pit pattern embossed in a side of the second injection molded, a second reflective layer formed over the second data pit pattern, an intermediate layer disposed over the second reflective layer, a third reflective layer disposed over the intermediate layer and having a third data pit pattern embossed therein; and

an adhesive layer bonding the first half disc to the second half disc such that a side of the first substrate not including the first data pit pattern faces a side of the second half disc including the third reflective layer, wherein

the optical recording medium has a thickness in a range of 0.9 mm to 1.4 mm, the first data pit pattern is configured to be read by a laser having a wavelength in a range of 400 nm to 420 nm and the second data pit pattern and third data pit pattern are configured to be read by a laser having a wavelength in a range of 635 nm to 660 nm.

2. An optical storage medium comprising:

a first half disc including a first injection molded substrate having a thickness of approximately 0.6 mm and having a first data pit pattern embossed in a side thereof, a first reflective layer formed over the first data pit pattern, a first intermediate layer formed over the first reflective layer, a second reflective layer disposed over the first intermediate layer and having a second data pit pattern embossed therein, and a first cover layer formed over the second reflective layer;

a second half disc including a second injection molded substrate having a thickness of approximately 0.6 mm and having a third data pit pattern embossed in a side thereof, a third reflective layer formed over the third data pit pattern, a second intermediate layer disposed over the third reflective layer, a fourth reflective layer disposed over the second intermediate layer and having a fourth data pit pattern embossed therein; and

an adhesive layer bonding the first half disc to the second half disc such that a side of the first substrate not including the first data pit pattern faces a side of the second half disc including the fourth reflective layer, wherein

the optical recording medium has a thickness in a range of 0.9 mm to 1.4 mm, the first data pit pattern and second data pit pattern are configured to be read by a laser having a wavelength in a range of 400 nm to 420 nm and the third data pit pattern and fourth data pit pattern are configured to be read by a laser having a wavelength in a range of 635 nm to 660 nm.
