Abstract

The present invention is directed towards a system for expelling a gas positioned between a substrate and a mold, the substrate and the mold further having a liquid positioned therebetween.

Claims (29)

1. A system, comprising:

a chuck body having first and second opposed sides, the first side including first and second spaced-apart recesses defining first and second spaced-apart support regions, with the first support region cincturing the second support region and the first and second recesses, and the second support region cincturing the second recess, and a fluid channel extending through the chuck body to the first recess;

a mold assembly coupled to the first side of the chuck body, with a portion of the mold in superimposition with the first recess defining a first chamber and a portion of the mold in superimposition with the second recess defining a second chamber; and

a pressure control system coupled to the chuck body to apply a vacuum pressure in the first chamber through the fluid channel bowing the first portion of the mold assembly towards the chuck body to bow the second portion of the mold assembly away from the chuck body.

2. The system as recited in claim 1 , wherein the first recess further comprises a plurality of spaced-apart pins extending therefrom.

3. The system as recited in claim 1 , wherein a portion of the chuck body in superimposition with the second recess is transparent to radiation having a predetermined wavelength.

4. The system as recited in claim 1 , wherein the system further comprises a compliant sealing positioned adjacent the second support region to isolate the first chamber from the second chamber.

5. The system as recited in claim 1 , wherein each of the first and second support regions has a support surface associated therewith, facing away from the second side, with the support surface being formed from a material adapted to conform to a profile of the mold assembly.

6. The system as recited in claim 1 , further including an additional fluid channel extending through the chuck body to the second recess to place the pressure control system in fluid communication with the second chamber.

7. The system as recited in claim 1 , wherein the mold assembly further comprises a plurality of protrusions and recessions.

8. The system as recited in claim 1 , wherein the second portion convexly bows away from the chuck body.

9. The system as recited in claim 8 , wherein the first portion concavely bows toward the chuck body.

10. A system, comprising:

a chuck body having first and second opposed sides, the first side including first and second spaced-apart recesses defining first and second spaced-apart support regions, and a fluid channel extending through the chuck body to the first recess;

a template coupled to the first side of the chuck body, with a portion of the template adjacent with the first recess defining a first chamber and a portion of the template adjacent with the second recess defining a second chamber; and

a pressure control system coupled to the chuck body to apply a vacuum pressure in the first chamber through a fluid channel bowing the first portion of the template towards the chuck body to bow the second portion of the template away from the chuck body.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the pressure control system includes at least one pump constructed to control pressure proximate to the first recess.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the pump controls pressure in the first chamber.

13. The system as recited in claim 1 , wherein the first recess further comprises a plurality of spaced-apart pins extending therefrom.

14. The system as recited in claim 10 , wherein a portion of the chuck body adjacent to the second recess is transparent to radiation having a predetermined wavelength.

15. The system as recited in claim 10 , wherein the system further includes a compliant sealing isolating the first chamber from the second chamber.

16. The system as recited in claim 10 , further including an additional fluid channel extending through the chuck body to the second recess.

17. The system as recited in claim 16 , wherein the additional fluid channel is in fluid communication with the pressure control system.

18. The system as recited in claim 16 , wherein the additional fluid channel is in fluid communication with a second pressure control system.

19. The system as recited in claim 10 , wherein the template includes a mold having a plurality of protrusions and recessions.

20. A system, comprising:

a chuck body having a first recess and a second recess, the first recess cincturing the second recess;

a template coupled to the chuck body, with a portion of the template adjacent to the first recess defining a first chamber and a portion of the template adjacent to the second recess defining a second chamber; and

a pressure control system coupled to the chuck body to apply a vacuum pressure in the first chamber bowing the first portion of the template towards the chuck body to bow the second portion of the template away from the chuck body.
