Printhead cartridge incorporating ink supply and moveable maintenance station

1. A printhead cartridge for an inkjet printer, said cartridge being removably receivable in said printer, said cartridge comprising:

a pagewidth printhead having a printhead face;

an ink delivery system for supplying ink to said printhead; and

a maintenance station for maintaining said printhead in an operable condition, said maintenance station comprising:

a chassis reciprocally moveable between a first position and a second position; and

a printhead maintenance system mounted on said chassis, said printhead maintenance system being moveable by said chassis between said first position in which said printhead face is maintained by said maintenance system and said second position in which said maintenance system is disengaged from said printhead face,

wherein said chassis comprises at least one engagement formation for complementary engagement with at least one engagement arm of an engagement mechanism in said printer, said chassis being moveable by means of said engagement mechanism.

2. The printhead cartridge of claim 1 , wherein said printhead maintenance system is configured for sealing said printhead face.

3. The printhead cartridge of claim 1 , wherein said printhead maintenance system is configured for removing ink from said printhead face.

4. The printhead cartridge of claim 3 , wherein said printhead maintenance system comprises an ink removal system.

5. The printhead cartridge of claim 1 , wherein said chassis comprises at least one lug for complementary engagement with a hook of said at least one engagement arm.

6. The printhead cartridge of claim 1 , wherein said printhead maintenance system comprising a maintenance roller having a contact surface for sealing contact with said printhead face.

7. The printhead cartridge of claim 6 , wherein said maintenance roller is rotatable only in said second position.

8. The printhead cartridge of claim 6 , wherein said maintenance roller is moveable substantially perpendicularly with respect to said face.

9. The printhead cartridge of claim 6 , wherein said maintenance roller comprises a rigid core having an elastically deformable shell defining said contact surface.

10. The printhead cartridge of claim 9 , wherein said shell is comprised of silicone or polyurethane.

11. The printhead cartridge of claim 6 , wherein said maintenance roller is biased towards said first position.

12. The printhead cartridge of claim 6 , wherein peeling disengagement of said maintenance roller from said printhead face draws ink from said printhead onto said contact surface.

13. The printhead cartridge of claim 6 , wherein said printhead maintenance system further comprises a transfer roller engaged with said maintenance roller, said transfer roller being configured for receiving ink from said maintenance roller when said maintenance roller is rotated in said second position.

14. The printhead cartridge of claim 13 , wherein said transfer roller is a metal roller having a wetting surface.

15. The printhead cartridge of claim 13 , wherein said printhead maintenance system further comprises a cleaning pad is in contact with said transfer roller.

16. The printhead cartridge of claim 15 , wherein said transfer roller and said cleaning pad are substantially coextensive with said maintenance roller.

17. The printhead cartridge of claim 1 , wherein said chassis is contained in a housing, said chassis being moveable relative to said housing.
