Abstract

A cushioning boot for bed-ridden patients. The boot includes a thickly-padded leg engaging portion and foot engaging portion with a front opening for easy insertion of a patient foot and leg. A series of stretchable, adjustable closure panels are removably secured to the boot for positioning and inserted leg in the proper orientation and retaining it in place.

Claims (27)

1. A cushioning boot, comprising:

a. a leg engaging portion and a foot engaging portion, said portions being padded and having a leg-accepting aperture extending along a front side of said boot,

b. a first spandex closure panel comprising two panel portions, each panel portion removably secured to said boot at a plurality of attachment locations along the leg engaging and foot engaging portions, such that said first spandex closure panel is positioned across at least a portion of said leg-accepting aperture that extends along a front side of said boot and said two panel portions are each removably secured to said boot at at least two locations on opposite sides of said leg-accepting aperture; and

c. a second spandex closure panel extending between and at least partly overlapping said first and second panel portions of said first spandex closure panel.

2. The cushioning boot according to claim 1 , in which at least said leg engaging portion has an exterior surface having a low coefficient of friction and at least said leg engaging portion has an interior surface having a high coefficient of friction.

3. The cushioning boot according to claim 1 , in which said first panel portion of said first spandex closure panel extends along a part of said leg engaging portion and said second portion of said first spandex closure panel extends along a part of said foot engaging portion.

4. The cushioning boot according to claim 3 , in which said panel portions of said first spandex closure panel are secured to one another.

5. The cushioning boot according to claim 3 , in which said first panel portion includes a view port.

6. The cushioning boot according to claim 3 , including a tether securing said first spandex closure panel to said foot-engaging portion.

7. The cushioning boot according to claim 3 , including means for orienting said first spandex and second closure panels for securing to said boot.

The cushioning boot according to claim 7 , including fasteners securing each of said panel portions to said boot at the plurality of attachment locations along the leg engaging and foot engaging portions, each fastener including a first fastening portion on one of said panel portions and a second fastening portion on said boot.

9. The cushioning boot according to claim 8 , in which said fasteners are hook and loop fasteners.

10. The cushioning boot according to claim 8 , in which said orienting means comprises color coding of said first and second fastening portions.

11. The cushioning boot according to claim 1 , in which said first spandex closure panel extends substantially along said leg engaging portion.

12. The cushioning boot according to claim 1 , in which said first spandex closure panel extends substantially along said foot engaging portion.

13. A cushioning boot, comprising:

a. a unitary structure including a leg engaging portion and a foot engaging portion, said portions being padded and having a leg-accepting aperture extending along a front side of said boot,

b. a first spandex closure panel removably secured to said boot at a plurality of attachment locations along the leg engaging and foot engaging portions, a first portion of said panel extending substantially along said leg engaging portion and a second portion of said panel extending along a portion of said foot engaging portion, in which said first and second panel portions of said first spandex closure panel are each removably secured to said boot at at least two locations on opposite sides of said leg-accepting aperture, and

c. a second spandex closure panel extending between and at least partly overlapping said first and second panel portions of said first spandex closure panel.

14. The cushioning boot according to claim 13 , in which at least said leg engaging portion has an exterior surface having a low coefficient of friction and at least said leg engaging portion has an interior surface having a high coefficient of friction.

15. The cushioning boot according to claim 13 , in which said first panel portion includes a view port.

16. The cushioning boot according to claim 13 , in which said panel portions of said first spandex closure panel are secured to one another.

17. The cushioning boot according to claim 16 , including a tether securing said first spandex closure panels to one of said leg-engaging or foot-engaging portions.

18. The cushioning boot according to claim 13 , including means for orienting said first and second spandex closure panels for securing to said boot.

19. The cushioning boot according to claim 18 , including fasteners securing each of said first and second spandex closure panels to said boot at the plurality of attachment locations along the leg engaging and foot engaging portions, each fastener including a first fastening portion on one of said panels and a second fastening portion on said boot.

20. The cushioning boot according to claim 19 , in which said fasteners are hook and loop fasteners.

21. The cushioning boot according to claim 19 , in which said orienting means comprises color coding of said first and second fastening portions.
