Abstract

The present invention provides a highly reliable electric power converter reduced in parasitic inductance. An electric power converter that includes a capacitor module which has a DC terminal, an inverter which coverts a direct current into an alternating current, and heat release fins which cool the inverter, is constructed so that: the inverter has a power module including a plurality of power semiconductor elements; the power module further has a metallic base, a dielectric substrate provided on one face of the metallic base, a power semiconductor element fixed to the dielectric substrate, and a DC terminal; the metallic base has the heat release fins on the other face; the DC terminal in the power module and the DC terminal in the capacitor module are each formed by stacking flat plate conductors via an insulator; the two positive and negative DC terminals have respective front ends bent in opposite directions; a plane including the bent sections is used as a surface for connecting the power module and the capacitor module; and the insulators overlap each other at the connection surface.

Claims (26)

1. An electric power converter comprising:

a power module having a power semiconductor element that converts from DC current to AC current;

a capacitor module having a capacitor element that smoothes the DC current;

a conductor for connecting said power module and said capacitor module electrically; and

a fluid channel formation for forming a fluid channel in which coolant flows;

wherein said power module is arranged at a first face of said fluid channel formation;

said capacitor module is arranged at a second face of said fluid channel formation, with said first and second faces located at opposite sides of the fluid channel formation; and

said conductor is arranged to extend from a space between said capacitor module and the second face of said fluid channel formation to said power module via a side portion of said fluid channel formation.

2. The electric power converter according to claim 1 , wherein

said power module has a base plate, said power semiconductor element is arranged at one face of said base plate, and a heat discharge fin is provided at another face of said base plate;

said fluid channel formation has an opening that connects to the fluid channel at the first face of the fluid channel formation;

said base plate closes the opening of the fluid channel formation; and

said heat discharge fin projects toward an inside of the fluid channel.

3. The electric power converter according to claim 1 , wherein

said conductor has a laminated structure and passes at a side portion of said fluid channel formation.

4. The electric power converter according to claim 1 , wherein

said power module comprises a base plate and a DC terminal;

said power semiconductor element is arranged at one face of the base plate, and another face of the base plate is fixed to said fluid channel formation;

a case is arranged at the one face and surrounds said power semiconductor element;

said case is constructed by a bottom portion, which connects with said base plate, an upper portion, which counters with said bottom portion, an inside wall portion, which forms a space installing said power semiconductor element, and an outside wall portion, which counters with said inside wall portion; and

said DC terminal is arranged at said outside wall portion.

5. The electric power converter according to claim 4 , wherein

said power module provides a power semiconductor element forming a U-phase, a power semiconductor element forming a V-phase, and a power semiconductor element forming a W-phase; and

said DC terminal is formed by a U-phase DC terminal, a V-phase DC terminal, and a W-phase DC terminal.

6. The electric power converter according to claim 4 , wherein

said conductor is mutually crooked in a counter direction at a tip part by the side of said power module, and has a connection face with said DC terminal at a point at which it is crooked.
