Abstract

An inkjet print engine includes a printer cartridge having an elongate body and a pair of mounting posts provided at either end of the elongate body, the printer cartridge further and defining a plurality of partitions; an ink storage module assembly having a row of ink storage modules interleaved with the partitions; a printhead assembly mounted to the elongate body and including at least one ink ejection integrated circuit (IC) connected to receive ink from the ink storage modules; an elongate maintenance assembly mounted between the posts and configured to cap and clean the IC; a cradle unit for removably receiving the printer cartridge; and a maintenance drive assembly mounted to the cradle unit for actuating against the maintenance assembly to facilitate cleaning of the IC.

Claims (20)

1. An inkjet print engine comprising:

a printer cartridge having an elongate body and a pair of mounting posts provided at either end of the elongate body, the printer cartridge further and defining a plurality of partitions;

an ink storage module assembly having a row of ink storage modules interleaved with the partitions;

a printhead assembly mounted to the elongate body and including at least one ink ejection integrated circuit (IC) connected to receive ink from the ink storage modules;

an elongate maintenance assembly mounted between the posts and configured to cap and clean the IC;

a cradle unit for removably receiving the printer cartridge; and

a maintenance drive assembly mounted to the cradle unit for actuating against the maintenance assembly to facilitate cleaning of the IC.

2. An inkjet print engine as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the maintenance assembly includes a channel structure having a pair of protruding tongue portions at ends thereof, each pair of tongue portions receiving a respective one of the posts.

3. An inkjet print engine as claimed in claim 2 , wherein the maintenance assembly further includes:

a retainer element defining a slot and configured to be secured to the channel structure; and

a molding defining a protruding rim portion extending through the slot to engage and cap the printhead assembly.

4. An inkjet print engine as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the maintenance assembly includes a micro fibre material configured to contact the IC and wipe the IC clean.

5. An inkjet print engine as claimed in claim 4 , further comprising a plurality of pins abutting a bottom surface of the micro fibre material.

6. An inkjet print engine as claimed in claim 5 , wherein the maintenance drive assembly actuates against the plurality of pins to bring the micro fibre material into contact with the IC.

7. An inkjet print engine as claimed in claim 5 , wherein the elongate maintenance assembly defines one or more apertures on a bottom surface thereof, and the maintenance drive assembly is configured to actuate against the plurality of pins through the one or more apertures.

8. An inkjet print engine as claimed in claim 1 , wherein an outer surface of the ink storage module assembly has interfaces to facilitate docking with a refill ink supply to replenish the ink storage modules.

9. An inkjet print engine as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the printhead assembly defines a plurality of clips for engaging with lugs of the body.

10. An inkjet print engine as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the printhead assembly includes two elongate members adhered together, a first one of the members defining a plurality of longitudinally extending ink channels, and a second one of the members defining feed tubes coupled to respective ink storage modules and for feeding ink to the ink channels.

11. An inkjet print engine as claimed in claim 10 , wherein a floor of each channel defines a series of spaced holes through which ink is fed to the IC.

12. An inkjet print engine as claimed in claim 10 , wherein the IC is mounted to the first member by a polymer sealing film.
