Abstract

Light emitting assembly includes an optical conductor having a pattern of deformities on or in front and back sides of the optical conductor to cause light to be emitted from a light emitting surface on at least one of the sides. At least one of the deformities varies, and at least one planar or curved refractive surface is aligned with at least one light source to redirect a portion of the light from the light source entering the optical conductor in a predetermined manner to cause the light emitted from the light emitting surface to pass through an optical film, which redirects the light through a liquid crystal display with no loss.
