Abstract

A system and method for associating rendered advertisements with digital content is described. In some examples, the system receives an image of a rendered advertisement, information associated with digital content, and information associating the rendered advertisement with the digital content via a web portal.

Claims (30)

1 . A method using a mobile device for performing an action associated with a rendered advertisement, the method comprising:

capturing an image of the rendered advertisement using an imaging component of the mobile device;

identifying the rendered advertisement based on information within the captured image;

identifying one or more performable actions associated with the rendered advertisement;

performing the identified one or more actions using a display component of the mobile device.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein capturing an image of the rendered advertisement includes capturing text-based content from the advertisement;

wherein identifying the rendered advertisement based on information within the captured image includes identifying the rendered advertisement using the text-based content and one or more visual attributes of the captured image.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying one or more performable actions associated with the rendered advertisement includes identifying a performable action associated with a location of the rendered advertisement that was captured.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying one or more performable actions associated with the rendered advertisement includes identifying a first performable action associated with a location of the rendered advertisement that was captured and identifying a second performable action associated with the entire rendered advertisement.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying one or more performable actions associated with the rendered advertisement includes identifying a performable action based on information associated with the mobile device.

6 . A computer-readable medium whose contents cause a mobile device to perform a method of interacting with a rendered advertisement, the method comprising:

capturing an image of a portion of the rendered advertisement, wherein the captured portion includes text elements and non-text elements;

identifying the rendered advertisement based on the text elements and the non-text elements;

identifying one or more performable actions associated with the identified rendered advertisement; and

performing the identified action.

7 . The computer-readable medium of claim 6 , wherein performing the identified action includes purchasing a product associated with the rendered advertisement.

8 . The computer-readable medium of claim 6 , wherein performing the identified action includes presenting a web page associated with the rendered advertisement.

9 . The computer-readable medium of claim 6 , wherein performing the identified action includes storing a coupon in memory of the mobile device.

10 . A computer memory storing a data structure for a printed advertisement that defines actions to perform with respect to an optical capture from the printed advertisement by a mobile device, the data structure including two or more entries, wherein each of the entries includes:

information identifying a region in the printed advertisement; and

information identifying digital content associated with a region in the printed advertisement.

11 . A method of associating a rendered advertisement with digital content, the method comprising:

displaying a user interface via a computing device, wherein the user interface includes elements that facilitate the entry of information from a user;

receiving, via, the user interface, (1) information identifying a rendered advertisement, (2) information identifying digital content, and (3) information associating the identified digital content with one or more regions within the image of the rendered advertisement; and

storing the information identifying the rendered advertisement, the received information identifying the digital content, and the received information associating the identified digital content with the one or more regions within the image of the rendered advertisement in a data structure associated with the rendered advertisement.

12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the image and information is stored at a server remotely located from the computing device.

13 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the user interface is displayed via a web browser of the computing device.

14 . The method of claim 11 , wherein receiving information identifying a rendered advertisement includes receiving one or more images of the rendered advertisement.

15 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

displaying, via a capture device, the identified digital content in response to receiving an indication of a capture of at least a portion of the rendered advertisement by the capture device.
