Abstract

Diversity processing for closed loops may include combining a plurality of received multipath signals to estimate at least one processed diversity signal based on information from at one or more common channels. The common channels may include a dedicated pilot channel transmitted by each diversity antenna. The received multipath signals may originate from diversity transmit antennas at a base station, which may be transmitting information via a closed loop diversity transmission mode. The closed loop diversity transmission mode may be WCDMA/HSDPA closed loop 1 or closed loop 2 . Estimations may be made of the closed loop transmit weights used by the base station for transmission of the symbols. Closed loop symbols transmitted by the diversity transmit antennas may then be estimated based on received diversity signals and at least one dedicated pilot channel. At least a portion of the at least one processed diversity signal may be despread.

Claims (27)

1. A method for signal processing, the method comprising:

receiving a plurality of multipath signals in a closed loop diversity transmission mode, wherein said multipath signals are received from a plurality of diversity transmit antennas at a base station;

combining at least a portion of said plurality of received multipath signals for each of said plurality of diversity transmit antennas to form at least one processed diversity signal; and

estimating transmitted symbols from said at least one processed diversity signal based on information determined from one or more common channels transmitted by said base station.

2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said closed loop diversity transmission mode comprises WCDMA/HSDPA closed loop 1 mode or WCDMA closed loop 2 mode.

3. The method according to claim 1 , comprising generating partial channel estimates.

4. The method according to claim 3 , comprising generating a weight based on said partial channel estimates.

5. The method according to claim 4 , comprising estimating a transmit weight from said generated weight.

6. The method according to claim 5 , comprising estimating said transmitted symbols based on said estimated transmit weight for said at least one processed diversity signal.

7. The method according to claim 1 , comprising estimating said transmitted symbols based on a feedback weight for said base station.

8. The method according to claim 3 , comprising generating said partial channel estimates by projecting each of said at least one processed diversity signal with respect to common channel information.

9. The method according to claim 3 , comprising estimating partial transmitted channel symbols for each of said plurality of diversity transmit antennas at said base station based on said generated partial channel estimates.

10. The method according to claim 1 , comprising despreading at least a portion of said at least one processed diversity signal.

11. A system for signal processing, the system comprising:

one or more circuits and/or processors in a wireless receiver, said one or more circuits and/or processor are operable to:

receive a plurality of multipath signals in a closed loop diversity transmission mode, wherein said multipath signals are received from a plurality of diversity transmit antennas at a base station;

combine at least a portion of said plurality of received multipath signals for each of said plurality of diversity transmit antennas to form at least one processed diversity signal; and

estimate transmitted symbols from said at least one processed diversity signal based on information determined from one or more common channels transmitted by said base station.

12. The system according to claim 11 , wherein said closed loop diversity transmission mode comprises WCDMA/HSDPA closed loop 1 mode or WCDMA closed loop 2 mode.

13. The system according to claim 11 , wherein said one or more circuits and/or processors are operable to generate partial channel estimates.

14. The system according to claim 13 , wherein said one or more circuits and/or processors are operable to generate a weight based on said partial channel estimates.

15. The system according to claim 14 , wherein said one or more circuits and/or processors are operable to estimate a transmit weight from said generated weight.

16. The system according to claim 15 , wherein said one or more circuits and/or processors are operable to estimate said transmitted symbols based on said estimated transmit weight for said at least one processed diversity signal.

17. The system according to claim 11 , wherein said one or more circuits and/or processors are operable to estimate said transmitted symbols based on a feedback weight for said base station.

18. The system according to claim 13 , wherein said one or more circuits and/or processors are operable to generate said partial channel estimates by projecting each of said at least one processed diversity signal with respect to common channel information.

19. The system according to claim 13 , wherein said one or more circuits and/or processors are operable to estimate partial transmitted channel symbols for each of said plurality of diversity transmit antennas at said base station based on said generated partial channel estimates.

20. The system according to claim 11 , wherein said one or more circuits and/or processors are operable to despread at least a portion of said at least one processed diversity signal.
