Abstract

A tourniquet system embedded within the garment, the tourniquet system including a band, an optional bar, and an anti-pinch plate. The bar comprises an elongate portion of material having a first end portion, an intermediate portion, and a second end portion, at least one aperture formed in the bar so as to accept the band and allow the band to pass therethrough, at least one locking protrusion that extends from at least one of the first end portion or the second end portion. The anti-pinch plate includes one or more band receiving apertures formed so as to accept the band and allow the band to pass therethrough, wherein the anti-pinch plate includes one or more locking notches formed substantially along an edge portion of the anti-pinch plate, wherein the locking notches provide a means for securing at least a portion of the bar to the anti-pinch plate.

Claims (33)

1. A tourniquet system embedded within a garment comprising:

a band having a first end portion and a second end portion;

a bar, wherein the bar comprises an elongate portion of material having at least a first band receiving aperture, a second band receiving aperture, and a third band receiving aperture formed therethrough, wherein each band receiving aperture is fully within the bar, and wherein the bar comprises at least one locking protrusion that extends from at least one of a first end portion or a second end portion of the bar; and

an anti-pinch plate, wherein the anti-pinch plate includes one or more band receiving apertures formed so as to allow at least a portion of the band to pass therethrough, wherein the anti-pinch plate includes two or more locking notches formed substantially along an edge portion of the anti-pinch plate, wherein each locking notch allows at least a portion of the bar to be releasably secured to the anti-pinch plate;

wherein at least a portion of the band passes through at least one of the band receiving apertures formed in the anti-pinch plate, thereby maintaining the position of the band relative to the anti-pinch plate, wherein at least a portion of the band passes through the first band receiving aperture formed in the bar, wherein at least two portions of the band pass through the second band receiving aperture formed in the bar, wherein at least a portion of the band passes through the third band receiving aperture formed in the bar, and wherein the anti-pinch plate is positioned at least partially beneath the bar; and

wherein at least a portion of the band and a portion of the bar are embedded within the garment such that at least a portion of the band is maintained within a channel formed in at least a portion of the garment such that the band is maintained in a desired location relative to the garment;

wherein the at least one locking protrusion comprises at least one substantially “T” shaped extension; and

wherein each substantially “T”shaped extension is configured to interact with the two or more locking notches such that one side of each substantially “T” shaped extension interacts with a corresponding one of the at least two locking notches to releasably secure the bar to the anti-pinch plate.

2. The tourniquet system of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the bar is accessible via a flap formed in the garment.

3. The tourniquet system of claim 1 , wherein the garment comprises a pair of pants, a pair of shorts, a shirt, a jacket, a harness, a body-fitting framework, a wetsuit, a sky diving garment, a hazmat suit, a pressurized suit, a flight suit, or a uniform.

4. The tourniquet system of claim 1 , wherein the bar is curved over its length.

5. The tourniquet system of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the apertures formed in the bar is formed such that the received band is oriented in a manner parallel to a longitudinal axis of the bar.

6. The tourniquet system of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the apertures formed in the bar is formed such that the received band is oriented in a manner perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the bar.

7. The tourniquet system of claim 1 , wherein the anti-pinch plate is curved over its length.

8. The tourniquet system of claim 1 , wherein the two or more locking notches are formed by an edge portion of the anti-pinch plate.

9. The tourniquet system of claim 1 , wherein the two or more locking notches comprise a cord or banding material that is attached or coupled to the anti-pinch plate.

10. The tourniquet system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one locking protrusion is formed so as to be capable of interacting with the two or more locking notches to allow the bar to be releasably secured to the anti-pinch plate when the tourniquet system is not in use.

11. The tourniquet system of claim 1 , wherein the anti-pinch plate is attached to the garment.

12. The tourniquet system of claim 1 , wherein the tourniquet system is located proximate an upper portion of a leg portion of the garment.

13. The tourniquet system of claim 1 , wherein the-tourniquet system is located proximate a lower portion of a leg portion of the garment.

14. The tourniquet system of claim 1 , wherein the tourniquet system is located proximate an upper portion of an arm portion of the garment.

15. The tourniquet system of claim 1 , wherein the tourniquet system is located proximate a lower portion of an arm portion of the garment.

16. The tourniquet system of claim 1 , wherein the anti-pinch plate is attached or coupled to an exterior portion of the garment.

17. The tourniquet system of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the band is maintained within the garment by a series of loops formed around at least a portion of a circumference of an inner surface of the garment.

18. The tourniquet system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one locking protrusion extends from the first end portion of the bar and wherein a second locking protrusion extends from the second end portion of the bar.

19. The tourniquet system of claim 18 , wherein the second locking protrusion comprises at least one substantially “T” shaped extension.

20. A tourniquet system comprising:

a band;

a bar having at least three apertures formed therethrough, wherein each aperture is fully within the bar, and wherein at least a portion of the band passes through each aperture, and wherein the bar comprises at least one locking protrusion that extends from at least one of a first end portion or a second end portion of the bar; and

an anti-pinch plate, wherein the anti-pinch plate includes two or more locking notches, wherein each locking notch allows at least a portion of the bar to be releasably secured to the anti-pinch plate, and wherein at least a portion of the bar is positioned above the anti-pinch plate;

wherein the anti-pinch plate is attached to a garment and wherein at least a portion of the band is maintained within a channel formed in at least a portion of the garment;

wherein the at least one locking protrusion comprises at least one substantially “T” shaped extension: and

wherein each substantially “T” shaped extension is configured to interact with the two or more locking notches such that one side of each substantially “T” shaped extension interacts with a corresponding one of the at least two locking notches to releasably secure the bar to the anti-pinch plate.
