Abstract

A low-cost, high-definition color conversion layer is made using the ink jet method, with the layer having a consistent thickness and not bleeding into adjacent subpixels. A color conversion filter ( 1000 ) is characterized by being formed with a bank layer ( 60 ) that has a plurality of gently-curved protrusions ( 63 ), each of which has a first portion ( 61 ) and a second portion ( 62 ).

Claims (10)

1. A color filter, comprising:

a light-permeable substrate;

a plurality of color filter elements contacting directly with each other;

a plurality of discrete bank elements that are spaced apart from one another, the bank elements being disposed above and vertically aligned with contact portions of the color filter elements;

a barrier layer that covers the color filter elements and the bank elements,

wherein a first set of the bank elements are shaped as protuberances having gentle curved surfaces with convex upper sides that protrude in a direction away from the substrate, and a second set of the bank elements are shaped as protuberances lacking gentle curved surfaces.

2. The color filter according to claim 1 , wherein the bank elements in the first set include first portions and second portions covering the first portions, and the bank elements in the second set include second portions but not first portions.

3. The color filter according to claim 2 , wherein the second portions of the bank elements in the first set are formed using a photosetting resin or a photosetting/thermosetting resin.

4. The color filter according to claim 2 , wherein the first portions and second portions of the bank elements in the first set are formed from the same material.

5. The color filter according to claim 1 , wherein the barrier layer is made of a material selected from the group consisting of SiOx, SiNx, SiNxOy, AlOx, TiOx, TaOx, and ZnOx.
