Abstract

The present invention relates to the use of alkanolamines for thickening oxidative coloring compositions. More particularly, the present invention relates to the use of alkanolamines for thickening ready to use oxidative coloring composition based on mixing two compositions wherein one comprises at least one oxidative dyeing precursor and the other comprises as least one oxidizing agent.

Claims (14)

1 . An oxidative coloring composition, comprising at least one compound according to the general formula

R 1 R 2 R 3 N

wherein R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are same or different H, C 1 -C 6 alkyl, C 1 -C 6 monohydroxyalkyl or C 2 -C 6 polyhydroxyalkyl with the condition that at least one of R 1 , R 2 and R 3 is a mono or polyhydroxyalkyl, at least one oxidative dye precursor, optionally at least one coupling agent and optionally at least one direct dye; the oxidative coloring composition being optionally part of a kit in which a second composition comprises at least one oxidizing agent.

2 . (canceled)

3 . The composition according to claim 1 wherein R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are same or different H, C 1 -C 4 alkyl, C 1 -C 4 monohydroxyalkyl or C 2 -C 4 polyhydroxyalkyl with the condition that at least one of R 1 , R 2 and R 3 is a mono or polyhydroxyalkyl.

4 . The composition according to claim 3 wherein R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are same or different H, C 2 -C 4 alkyl, C 2 -C 4 monohydroxyalkyl or C 2 -C 4 polyhydroxyalkyl with the condition that at least one of R 1 , R 2 and R 3 is a mono or polyhydroxyalkyl.

5 . The composition according to claims 1 wherein the at least one alkanolamine is selected from monoethanolamine, diethanolamine and triethanolamine.

6 . The composition according to claim 5 wherein the alkanolamine is monoethanolamine.

7 . The composition according to claim 6 wherein the alkanolamine is contained in the compositions at a concentration of 1 to 35% by weight calculated to total composition prior to mixing with an oxidizing agent.

8 . The composition according to claim 1 wherein the coloring composition comprising at least one oxidative dye precursor is an emulsion and comprises at least one fatty alcohol of the following formula

R 4 -0H

wherein R 4 is a linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated alkyl chain with 12 to 22 C atoms and at least one emulsifier selected from anionic, non-ionic, cationic and amphoteric surfactants.

9 . The composition according to claim 1 wherein the pH of the coloring composition comprising at least one oxidative dye precursor is between 5 and 12 and the pH of the second composition comprising at least one oxidizing agent is between 2 and 5.

10 . The composition according to claim 1 wherein the pH of a combined composition resulting from mixing the coloring composition comprising at least one oxidative dye precursor and the second composition comprising at least one oxidizing agent is between 5 and 12.
