Printhead having nozzle plate formed on fluid distributors
View Patent ↗A printhead is provided having a nozzle plate having a plurality of nozzles defined therethrough and a plurality of adjacently arranged structures on which the nozzle plate is formed. The structures have a plurality of passages for distributing fluid to the nozzles and each structure has elongate apertures to the passages. The long dimension of the elongate apertures in the abutting sides of adjacent structures are angled relative to each other.
1. A printhead comprising:
a nozzle plate having a plurality of nozzles defined therethrough; and
a plurality of adjacently arranged structures on which the nozzle plate is formed, the structures having a plurality of passages for distributing fluid to the nozzles,
wherein each structure has elongate apertures to the passages, the long dimension of the elongate apertures in the abutting sides of adjacent structures being angled relative to each other.
2. The printhead of claim 1 wherein the apertures in at least one of the structures is a series of channels.
3. The printhead of claim 1 wherein the nozzles are arranged to extend across a pagewidth.
4. The printhead of claim 1 wherein the areal density of the nozzles relative to the nozzle plate exceeds 10,000 nozzles per square cm.
5. The printhead assembly of claim 1 wherein the nozzle plate is formed by chemical vapor deposition on the structures.
6. The printhead assembly of claim 1 wherein the nozzle plate is less than 10 microns thick.
