Ankle-joint endoprosthesis
View Patent ↗An endoprosthesis for replacing the ankle joint includes a lower component which is configured to be connected to the ankle bone, an upper component which is configured to be connected to the shin bone, and an intermediate part which forms a slide joint both with the lower and upper components. The intermediate part, which is wedge-shaped in sagittal section, is provided in order to compensate for anatomical or surgical irregularities. The upper component can also be wedge-shaped in frontal or sagittal section.
1. An endoprosthesis for replacing an ankle joint, comprising:
a lower component which is configured to be connected to an ankle bone and which forms a top slide surface,
an upper component comprising a plate having a planar or substantially planar bottom slide surface, a top connection surface, and a projection extending from the top connection surface configured for securing the upper component to a shin bone, the upper component further comprising an angle between 1° and 16° between the bottom slide surface and the top connection surface, wherein the upper component comprises a separable wedge-shaped part having one of a varying number of wedge angles and a non wedge-shaped part having no wedge angle, wherein the wedge-shaped part includes the planar or substantially planar bottom slide surface of the upper component and the non wedge-shaped part includes the top connection surface of the upper component, and
an intermediate part configured to be positioned between the lower component and the upper component, the intermediate part comprising a first slide surface configured to interact with the top slide surface of the lower component and a second slide surface configured to interact with the bottom slide surface of the upper component, the second slide surface being planar or substantially planar.
2. The endoprosthesis as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the top slide surface of the lower component and the first slide surface of the intermediate part are configured to interact substantially nonrotatably with respect to a vertical axis of the endoprosthesis.
3. The endoprosthesis as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the bottom slide surface of the upper component and the second slide surface of the intermediate part are configured to interact rotatably with respect to a vertical axis of the endoprosthesis.
4. The endoprosthesis as claimed in claim 1 , 2 or 3 , wherein the angle between the bottom slide surface and the top connection surface of the upper component is about 5°.
5. The endoprosthesis as claimed in claim 1 , 2 or 3 , wherein the angle between the bottom slide surface and the top connection surface of the upper component is between 3° and 8°.
6. A system of endoprostheses for replacing an ankle joint, comprising:
an endoprosthesis comprising:
a lower component which is configured to be connected to an ankle bone and which forms a top slide surface;
an upper component comprising a plate having a planar or substantially planar bottom slide surface, a top connection surface, and a projection extending from the top connection surface configured for securing the upper component to a shin bone, the upper component further comprising an angle between 1° and 16° between the bottom slide surface and the top connection surface;
an intermediate part configured to be positioned between the lower component and the upper component, the intermediate part comprising a first slide surface configured to interact with the top slide surface of the lower component and a second slide surface configured to interact with the bottom slide surface of the upper component, the second slide surface being planar or substantially planar; and
a second upper component configured to be exchangeable with the upper component of the endoprosthesis, the second upper component comprising a planar or substantially planar bottom slide surface and a top connection surface configured for connection to a resection surface of a shin bone, wherein the top connection surface and the bottom slide surface of the second upper component are substantially parallel.
7. The endoprosthesis as claimed in claim 6 , wherein the upper component of the endoprosthesis comprises a separable wedge-shaped part having one of a varying number of wedge angles and a non wedge-shaped part having no wedge angle, wherein the wedge-shaped part includes the planar or substantially planar bottom slide surface of the upper component and the non wedge-shaped part includes the top connection surface of the upper component.
8. The system of endoprostheses as claimed in claim 6 , wherein the top slide surface of the lower component and the first slide surface of the intermediate part are configured to interact substantially nonrotatably with respect to a vertical axis of the endoprosthesis.
9. The system of endoprostheses as claimed in claim 6 , wherein the bottom slide surface of the upper component of the endoprosthesis and the second slide surface of the intermediate part are configured to interact rotatably with respect to a vertical axis of the endoprosthesis.
10. The system of endoprostheses as claimed in claim 6 , wherein the angle between the bottom slide surface and the top connection surface of the upper component of the endoprosthesis is about 5°.
11. The system of endoprostheses as claimed in claim 6 , wherein the angle between the bottom slide surface and the top connection surface of the upper component of the endoprosthesis is between 3° and 8°.
