Methods for preventing and/or treating lysosomal storage disorders
View Patent ↗The present invention provides methods for preventing and/or treating lysosomal storage disorders using 5-(fluoromethyl)piperidine-3,4-diol, 5-(chloromethyl)piperidine-3,4-diol, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, solvate, or prodrug thereof, or any combination of two or more thereof. In particular, the present invention provides methods for preventing and/or treating Gaucher's disease.
1. A method for treating a lysosomal storage disorder, which comprises administering to a patient diagnosed with at least one condition selected from the group consisting of Gaucher disease, accumulation of glucocerebroside, deficiency in glucocerebrosidase, and a mutation in a glucocerebrosidase enzyme an effective amount of a therapeutic agent selected from the group consisting of 5-(fluoromethyl)piperidine-3,4-diol, 5-(chloromethyl)piperidine-3,4-diol, a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of any of the above, a solvate of any of the above, and any combination of two or more thereof.
2. The method of claim 1 , which comprises administering 5-(fluoromethyl)piperidine-3,4-diol or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof or a solvate thereof.
3. The method of claim 1 , which comprises administering 5-(chloromethyl)piperidine-3,4-diol or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof or a solvate thereof.
4. The method of claim 1 , which comprises administering (3R, 4R, 5S)-5-(chloromethyl)piperidine-3,4-diol or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof or a solvate thereof.
5. The method of claim 1 , which comprises administering (3R, 4R, 5S)-5-(chloromethyl)piperidine-3,4-diol.
6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the lysosomal storage disorder is associated with accumulation of glucocerebroside.
7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the lysosomal storage disorder is associated with a deficiency in glucocerebrosidase.
8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the lysosomal storage disorder is associated with a mutation in glucocerebrosidase.
9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising administering an effective amount of at least one other therapeutic agent.
10. The method of claim 9 , wherein at least one other therapeutic agent is imiglucerase or 1,5-(butylimino)-1,5-dideoxy-D-glucitol.
11. A method for treating Gaucher's disease in a patient diagnosed with the same, which comprises administering to the patient in need thereof an effective amount a therapeutic agent selected from the group consisting of 5-(fluoromethyl)piperidine-3,4-diol, 5-(chloromethyl)piperidine-3,4-diol, a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of any of the above, a solvate of any of the above, and any combination of two or more thereof.
12. The method of claim 11 , which comprises administering -(fluoromethyl)piperidine-3,4-diol or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof or a solvate thereof.
13. The method of claim 11 , which comprises administering -(fluoromethyl)piperidine-3,4-diol hydrochloride.
14. The method of claim 11 , which comprises administering -(chloromethyl)piperidine-3,4-diol or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof or a solvate thereof.
15. The method of claim 11 , which comprises administering -(chloromethyl)piperidine-3,4-diol.
16. The method of claim 11 , further comprising administering an effective amount of at least one other therapeutic agent.
17. The method of claim 16 , wherein at least one other therapeutic agent is imiglucerase or 1,5-(butylimino)-1,5-dideoxy-D-glucitol.
18. A kit comprising a composition comprising an effective amount of 5-(fluoromethyl)piperidine-3,4-diol, 5-(chloromethyl)piperdine-3,4-diol, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, solvate, or combination thereof in a container and instructions for using the composition to treat Gaucher's disease.
