MONOLITHIC CELL ARRAY DISPLAY
There is described a display comprising: a monolithic array of cells; and optical direct outputs located within the monolithic array of cells and adapted for collectively forming a human-readable display upon using a first portion of available light, wherein a second portion of the available light is used concurrently to the first portion for a purpose other than the forming the human-readable display.
1 . A display comprising:
a monolithic array of cells; and
optical direct outputs located within the monolithic array of cells and adapted for collectively forming a human-readable display upon using a first portion of available light, wherein a second portion of said available light is used concurrently to said first portion for a purpose other than said forming said human-readable display.
2 . The display as in claim 1 , further comprising a photovoltaic receptor adapted to convert said second portion of said available light into electricity.
3 . The display as in claim 2 , wherein the optical direct outputs are adapted to reflect said first portion of said available light for said forming the human-readable display.
4 . The display as in claim 2 , wherein said electricity is used for powering said monolithic array of cells.
5 . The display as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said available light is ambient light.
6 . A human-readable display fabricated on a monolithic substrate, comprising
optical direct outputs for collectively forming the human-readable display; and photovoltaic means fabricated on said monolithic substrate.
7 . The human-readable display as claimed in claim 6 , wherein said optical direct outputs are adapted to reflect a first portion of ambient light for said collectively forming the human-readable display, and said photovoltaic means are adapted to convert into electricity a second portion of said ambient light which is unreflected by said optical direct outputs.
