Abstract

A printhead assembly for an inkjet printer, which has a printhead with a plurality of inlets for receiving ink, an extrusion having a plurality of outlets in fluid communication with the plurality of inlets such that the extrusion supplies ink to the printhead, the extrusion having a plurality of ink channels in fluid communication with the plurality of outlets, a plugging device at one end of the extrusion configured to supply ink from the printer to each of the channels respectively, the plugging device having a first plate, a second plate, a series of plugs and a spine, the first and the second plate hingedly connected via the spine such that the series of plugs seal respective open ends of the plurality of channels and the first and second plates overlap and clamp around the exterior surface of the first end of the extrusion. The plugging device also having inlets for receiving ink from the printer, and directing the received ink into respective channels of the extrusion. The first plate has the plurality of inlets, and the extrusion has a plurality of apertures which align with the plurality of inlets.

Claims (13)

1. A printhead assembly for an inkjet printer, the assembly comprising:

a printhead with a plurality of inlets for receiving ink;

an extrusion having a plurality of outlets in fluid communication with the plurality of inlets such that the extrusion supplies ink to the printhead, the extrusion having a plurality of ink channels in fluid communication with the plurality of outlets;

a plugging device at one end of the extrusion configured to supply ink from the printer to each of the channels respectively, the plugging device having a first plate, a second plate, a series of plugs and a spine, the first and the second plate hingedly connected via the spine such that the series of plugs seal respective open ends of the plurality of channels and the first and second plates overlap and clamp around the exterior surface of the first end of the extrusion, the plugging device also having inlets for receiving ink from the printer, and directing the received ink into respective channels of the extrusion; and

a capping device that is moveable via a camshaft, wherein the camshaft pivotally moves the capping device between capped and uncapped positions,

wherein, the first plate has the plurality of inlets, and the extrusion has a plurality of apertures which align with the plurality of inlets,

wherein the printhead has an elongate carrier for supporting a plurality of printhead modules and a biasing element which biases against the plurality of printhead modules such that the plurality of printhead modules bear against the elongate carrier, and

wherein the elongate carrier includes a plurality of apertures which snap fittingly receive a molded component which includes a camshaft support for supporting the camshaft.

2. The assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the plugging device has a sealing pin arrangement with a hollow perforated pin fitted to each of the inlets respectively to form a sealed fluid connection with a plurality of connectors in the printers.

3. The assembly according to claim 2 , wherein the printhead has the plurality of printhead modules each with a printhead integrated circuit having an array of nozzles in fluid communication with the plurality of ink inlets for ejecting ink.

4. The assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the printhead has a flexible printed circuit board for conducting power and data from the printer to each printhead integrated circuit.

The assembly according to claim 3 , wherein the biasing element is a plurality of biasing arms spaced along the capping device, wherein each biasing arm biases against a respective printhead module in order to maintain the respective printhead module in a maintained position with the elongate carrier.

6. The assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the extrusion includes an air channel which is in fluid communication with an air supply via the plugging device.
