Abstract

Various embodiments of systems, methods, and computer programs are disclosed for providing a virtual conference. One embodiment is a method for providing a virtual conference that includes a conferencing system obtaining participant location information associated with a plurality of participant identifiers, the conferencing system establishing an audio conference with participants associated with the plurality of participant identifiers, and executing logic that selects a stored representation and communicates the stored representation to a rendering device that displays, during the audio conference, a graphical view responsive to the stored representation on a display device. A distributed system includes a conferencing system that establishes an audio conference among participants and a licensing application that communicates a representation to a rendering device that displays, during the audio conference, a graphical view responsive to the representation on the display device.

Claims (35)

1. A method for providing a virtual conference, the method comprising:

a conferencing system obtaining participant location information associated with a plurality of participant identifiers;

the conferencing system establishing an audio conference with participants associated with the plurality of participant identifiers;

the conferencing system presenting a conference user interface to the plurality of participants, the conference user interface displaying each of the participants as a unique participant object in a simulated location view, the simulated location view comprising a licensed background image having one or more displayed objects; and

the conferencing system executing logic that selects a stored representation of a product, a service, or a licensed image associated with one or more conference sponsors from a license/ad store, the selected stored representation associated with one or more conference sponsors and automatically selected without user input based on the participant location information and to be added to the licensed background image with the one or more displayed objects and the unique participant objects, and the conferencing system further executing logic that adds the selected stored representation of the product, the service, or the licensed image to the licensed background image in the simulated location view, wherein the conference user interface simultaneously displays during the audio conference the unique participant objects in the simulated location view with the selected stored representation added to the licensed background image with the one or more displayed objects;

wherein the simulated location view and the selected stored representation added to the licensed background image with the one or more displayed objects are customized in different conference user interfaces presented to two or more of the participants based on their corresponding participant location information and one or more participant profile parameters stored in a participant database.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein executing logic that selects a stored representation comprises selecting an image associated with one of a product and a service.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein executing logic that selects a stored representation associated with one of the product and the service comprises one of a trademark or a service mark.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein executing logic that selects a stored representation comprises an image of a character.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein executing logic that selects a stored representation comprises an image of a person that is not one of the participants associated with the participant identifiers.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein executing logic that selects a stored representation comprises an image suggestive of a select service.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein executing logic that selects a stored representation comprises an image of a select product.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the image of the select product is selected from a set of products produced by a company that employs the participants associated with the participant identifiers.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the silhouette is translucent.

10. The method of claim 7 , wherein the image of the select product comprises a silhouette.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein executing logic that selects a stored representation comprises an image that is licensed for use in the conferencing system.

12. The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

associating an audio track with the stored representation; and

executing a decoder that converts the audio track into a time-varying signal that is communicated to a transducer coupled to a client device.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the audio track comprises a spoken message.

14. The method of claim 12 , wherein the audio track comprises a song.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the stored representation comprises an image of a performer of the song.

16. The method of claim 14 , wherein the stored representation comprises an image of artwork associated with a compilation of songs.

17. A distributed system, comprising:

at least one client device associated with a display device; and

a conferencing system coupled to the at least one client device via one or more networks, the conferencing system comprising:

an interface configured to obtain location information associated with a plurality of participant identifiers;

a license/ad store comprising a plurality of stored representations of a product, a service, or a licensed image;

an audio conference application that when executed establishes and manages an audio conference with participants associated with the plurality of participant identifiers;

a conference user interface presented during the audio conference to the plurality of participants, the conference user interface displaying each of the participants as a unique participant object in a simulated location view, the simulated location view comprising a licensed background image having one or more displayed objects; and

a licensing application that when executed automatically selects without user input one of the stored representations of the product, the service, or the licensed image associated with one or more conference sponsors based on the participant location information and adds the selected stored representation to the licensed background image in the simulated location view with the one or more displayed objects and the unique participant objects such that the conference user interface simultaneously displays during the audio conference the unique participant objects in the simulated location view with the selected stored representation added to the licensed background image with the one or more displayed objects;

wherein the simulated location view and the selected stored representation added to the licensed background image with the one or more displayed objects are customized in different conference user interfaces presented to two or more of the participants based on their corresponding participant location information and one or more participant profile parameters stored in a participant database.

18. The distributed system of claim 17 , wherein the selected stored representation comprises an image selected from a set of images responsive to the location information.

19. The distributed system of claim 17 , wherein the selected stored representation comprises an image selected from the group consisting of a trademark and a service mark.

20. The distributed system of claim 17 , wherein the selected stored representation comprises an image of a person that is not one of the participants associated with the participant identifiers.
