Foamable fluoropolymer composition
View Patent ↗A foamable fluoropolymer composition containing foam cell nucleating agent is provided, wherein the fluoropolymer comprises melt-fabricable tetrafluoroethylene-/hexafluoropropylene copolymer and tetrafluoroethylene/perfluoro(alkyl vinyl ether) copolymer, wherein the alkyl contains 1 to 4 carbon atoms, wherein the melting temperature of said tetrafluoroethylene/perfluoro(alkyl vinyl ether) copolymer is no more than 35° C. greater than the melting temperature of said tetrafluoroethylene/hexafluoropropylene copolymer, and/or wherein said tetrafluoroethylene/hexafluoropropylene copolymer and said tetrafluoroethylene/perfluoro(alkyl vinyl ether) copolymer each have a melt flow rate (MFR) within the range of 1 to 40 g/10 min and the MFR of one of said copolymers is at least twice that of the other of said copolymers.

A foamable composition comprising melt-fabricable tetrafluoroethylene/hexafluoropropylene copolymer, tetrafluoroethylene/perfluoro(alkyl vinyl ether) copolymer, wherein the alkyl contains 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and foam cell nucleating agent, the melting temperature of said tetrafluoroethylene/perfluoro(alkyl vinyl ether) copolymer being no more than 35° C. greater than the melting temperature of said tetrafluoroethylene/hexafluoropropylene copolymer, wherein said tetrafluoroethylene/hexafluoropropylene copolymer contains 0.2 to 4 wt % perfluoro(alkyl vinyl ether), wherein said alkyl contains 1 to 4 carbon atoms and perfluoro(alkyl vinyl ether) of said tetrafluoroethylene/perfluoro(alkyl vinyl ether) copolymer is present in an effective amount to prevent sloughing of said composition at the exterior of an extrusion die in the extrusion foaming of said composition.
2. The foamable composition of claim 1 , wherein said amount is at least 6 wt % based on the combined weight of said tetrafluoroethylene and said perfluoro(alkyl vinyl ether).

A foamable composition comprising melt-fabricable tetrafluoroethylene/hexafluoropropylene copolymer, tetrafluoroethylene/perfluoro(alkyl vinyl ether) copolymer, wherein the alkyl contains 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and foam cell nucleating agent, the melting temperature of said tetrafluoroethylene/perfluoro(alkyl vinyl ether) copolymer being no more than 35′C greater than the melting temperature of said tetrafluoroethylene/hexafluoropropylene copolymer, wherein the melt flow rate (MFR) of said tetrafluoroethylene/perfluoro(alkyl vinyl ether) copolymer is within the range of 1 to 15 g/10 min and the MFR of said tetrafluoroethylene/hexafluoropropylene copolymer is within the range of 20 to 40 g/10 min and the MFR of said tetrafluoroethylene/hexafluoropropylene copolymer is at least twice that of said tetrafluoroethylene/perfluoro(alkyl vinyl ether) copolymer.

A foamable composition comprising melt-fabricable tetrafluoroethylene/hexafluoropropylene copolymer, tetrafluoroethylene/perfluoro(alkyl vinyl ether) copolymer, wherein the alkyl contains 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and foam cell nucleating agent, wherein said tetrafluoroethylene/hexafluoropropylene copolymer and said tetrafluoroethylene/perfluoro(alkyl vinyl ether) copolymer each have a melt flow rate (MFR) within the range of 1 to 40 g/10 min and the MFR of one of said copolymers is at least that of the other of said copolymers, wherein said tetrafluoroethylene/hexafluoropropylene copolymer also contains 0.2 to 4 wt % perfluoro(alkyl vinyl ether) wherein the alkyl contains 1 to 4 carbon atoms.
