Abstract

The preferred embodiments of the present invention include providing automated passcode recovery in an interactive voice response system by providing to a caller an automated passcode recovery question and processing a caller answer to the automated passcode recovery question to authenticate the caller.

Claims (29)

1. A method for providing automated passcode recovery in an interactive voice response system, the method comprising:

prompting a caller to enter a selection for a non-auditory authentication passcode corresponding to the caller;

receiving the non-auditory authentication passcode from the caller;

automatically providing to the caller an automated auditory passcode recovery question responsive to the non-auditory authentication passcode not matching an authentication passcode corresponding to the caller after a predetermined number of times;

receiving a caller answer to the automated auditory passcode recovery question from the caller; and

responsive to the caller answer matching a stored automated passcode recovery answer corresponding to the automated auditory passcode recovery question, authenticating the caller wherein authenticating the caller includes providing the authentication passcode to the caller.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the auditory passcode recovery question is a recorded version of the caller's voice and wherein the recorded version of the caller's recorded voice comprises a facsimile that is at least one of compressed, digitized, and a machine form.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising providing the caller access to services offered by the interactive voice response system after authenticating the caller.

4. An interactive voice response system comprising:

a processor; and

memory comprising a caller profile, the caller profile comprising an authentication passcode, an automated passcode recovery question, and an automated passcode recovery answer corresponding to the caller, the memory further comprising computer readable program code that when executed by the processor causes the processor to perform operations comprising:

prompting a caller to enter a selection for a non-auditory authentication passcode corresponding to the caller;

receiving the non-auditory authentication passcode from the caller; and

enabling the caller to recover the authentication passcode from the caller profile by automatically providing the corresponding automated passcode recovery answer in response to an auditory playback of the corresponding automated passcode recovery question responsive to the non-auditory authentication passcode not matching the authentication passcode corresponding to the caller after a predetermined number of times.

5. The interactive voice response system of claim 4 , wherein the passcode recovery question is a recorded version of the caller's voice and wherein the recorded version of the caller's recorded voice comprises a facsimile that is at least one of compressed, digitized, and a machine form.

6. The interactive voice response system of claim 4 , further comprising logic configured to provide voice mail services.

7. The interactive voice response system of claim 4 , wherein the automated passcode question is provided over a communication network.

8. The interactive voice response system of claim 7 , further comprising: a network interface device to communicate with the communication network and to communicate with a caller via the communication network; and a voice response system to provide voice prompts to the caller and to receive caller responses to the voice prompts via the communication network.

9. The interactive voice response system of claim 7 , wherein the communication network comprises a wireless communication network.

10. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium comprising a computer program for providing automated passcode recovery to a caller in an interactive voice response system, the computer program when executed by a processor causing the processor to perform operations comprising:

prompting the caller to enter a selection for a non-auditory authentication passcode corresponding to the caller;

receiving the non-auditory authentication passcode from the caller;

automatically providing an automated auditory passcode recovery question responsive to the non-auditory authentication passcode not matching an authentication passcode corresponding to the caller after a predetermined number of times;

receiving a caller answer to the automated auditory passcode recovery question; and

authenticating the caller if the caller answer matches an automated passcode recovery answer corresponding to the automated auditory passcode recovery question, wherein authenticating the caller comprises providing the authentication passcode to the caller.

11. The computer readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the auditory passcode recovery question is a recorded version of the caller's voice and wherein the recorded version of the caller's recorded voice comprises a facsimile that is at least one of compressed, digitized, and a machine form.

12. The computer readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the operations further comprise providing the caller access to services offered by the interactive voice response system after the caller is authenticated.

13. The computer readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the operations further comprise providing voice mail services to the authenticated caller.

14. The computer readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the operations further comprise providing automated banking services to the caller.
