Pagewidth printhead assembly having LCP micromolding
View Patent ↗A pagewidth inkjet printhead assembly includes a printhead integrated circuit; an LCP ink manifold; and a flex PCB wire-bonded to bond pads on the printhead integrated circuit. The flex PCB wraps around the LCP ink manifold. The ink manifold includes an LCP lower micromolding having a plurality of ink inlets and an LCP upper micomolding having a plurality of ink outlets. The printhead integrated circuit is bonded to the LCP upper micromolding.
1. A pagewidth inkjet printhead assembly comprising:
at least one printhead integrated circuit;
an LCP (liquid crystal polymer) ink manifold comprising an LCP lower micromolding having a plurality of ink inlets and an LCP upper micromolding having a plurality of ink outlets, said at least one printhead integrated circuit being bonded to said LCP upper micromolding;
a flex PCB (printed circuit board) wire-bonded to bond pads on said at least one printhead integrated circuit, said flex PCB wrapping around said LCP ink manifold.
2. The pagewidth printhead assembly of claim 1 comprising a plurality of printhead integrated circuits.
3. The pagewidth printhead assembly of claim 1 , wherein one printhead circuit and a respective LCP ink manifold define a printing module.
4. The pagewidth printhead assembly of claim 3 further comprising
an elongate U-channel member;
an elongate ink delivery member positioned on a floor of the U-channel member; and
a plurality of said printing modules mounted in the U-channel member assembly such that the ink inlets in said LCP lower micromolding are in fluid communication with said elongate ink delivery member.
5. The pagewidth printhead assembly of claim 4 , wherein the U-channel member is comprised of a metal having a co-efficient of thermal expansion similar to that of silicon.
6. The pagewidth printhead assembly of claim 5 , wherein the channel member is comprised of a nickel iron alloy.
7. The pagewidth printhead assembly of claim 4 , wherein the channel member is resiliently flexible and configured so that sidewalls of the channel member bear against the printing modules to retain the modules in an operative position.
8. The pagewidth printhead assembly of claim 4 , wherein the elongate ink delivery member is an elastomeric ink delivery extrusion.
