Abstract

A method of making a tubular intraluminal graft in the form of a tubular diametrically adjustable stent having a tubular covering of porous expanded PTFE which is less than 0.10 mm thick. The covering may be on the exterior surface of the stent, or on the interior surface of the stent, or both. The covering may be affixed to the stent by an adhesive which is preferably fluorinated ethylene propylene.

Claims (24)

1. An intraluminal graft comprising:

a) a diametrically adjustable stent with an exterior surface, a luminal surface and a wall; and having an enlarged diameter and a collapsed diameter; and

b) a covering affixed to the diametrically adjustable stent, said covering having an exterior surface, a luminal surface and a seam on the covering wherein the total thickness of the intraluminal graft is less than 0.1 mm.

2. An intraluminal graft of claim 1 wherein the covering is affixed to the exterior surface.

3. An intraluminal graft of claim 1 wherein the covering is affixed to the luminal surface.

4. An intraluminal graft of claim 1 wherein the covering is affixed to both the exterior and luminal surfaces.

5. An intraluminal graft according to claim 1 , wherein the diametrically adjustable stent is a self-expanding stent.

6. An intraluminal graft according to claim 1 , wherein the diametrically adjustable stent is a Nitinol stent.

7. An intraluminal graft according to claim 1 , wherein the covering is of porous expanded PTFE.

8. An intraluminal graft according to claim 7 , wherein the covering of porous expanded PTFE is adhesively affixed to the diametrically adjustable stent.

9. An intraluminal graft according to claim 8 , wherein the covering is adhesively affixed to the luminal surface of the diametrically adjustable stent.

10. An intraluminal graft according to claim 1 , wherein the covering is affixed to the exterior surface of the diametrically adjustable stent.

11. An intraluminal graft according to claim 10 , wherein the covering is sutured to the diametrically adjustable stent.

12. An intraluminal graft according to claim 11 , wherein the diametrically adjustable stent is sutured to a longitudinal end of the covering.

13. An intraluminal graft according to claim 1 , wherein the covering is affixed to the luminal surface of the diametrically adjustable stent.

14. An intraluminal graft according to claim 13 , wherein the covering is sutured to the diametrically adjustable stent.

15. An intraluminal graft according to claim 14 , wherein the diametrically adjustable stent is sutured to a longitudinal end of the covering.

16. An intraluminal graft comprising:

a) an adjustable stent having an exterior surface, a luminal surface and a wall, and having an enlarged diameter and a collapsed diameter, and

b) a covering affixed to the adjustable stent and forming a seam wherein the total thickness of the intraluminal graft is less than 0.1 mm.

17. The intraluminal graft of claim 16 wherein the adjustable stent is at least 2 times longer than its diameter.

18. The intraluminal graft of claim 16 wherein the length of the adjustable stent and the covering are substantially the same.

19. The intraluminal graft of claim 16 wherein the covering is overlapped to form the seam.

20. The intraluminal graft of claim 16 wherein the seam extends substantially longitudinally along the intraluminal graft.
