Abstract

A converged mobile-Web communications solution interfaces to both a mobile phone network and an Internet or Intranet network, so that services that are provided to mobile phones in the mobile phone network are also provided to web clients or web widgets in the Internet or Intranet network.

Claims (38)

1. A system for providing a converged mobile-Web communications solution in a wireless communications network, comprising:

a wireless communications network for making phone calls to and from mobile units, wherein the phone calls are initiated by call setup and in-band signaling within the wireless communications network and voice frames for the phone calls are switched between the mobile units across bearer paths in the wireless communications network; and

a real-time exchange that interfaces to at least one mobile switching center in the wireless communications network to provide advanced voice services therein, without requiring any changes to the mobile switching center or other equipment of the wireless communications network to provide the advanced voice services;

wherein both the real-time exchange and the mobile units that use the advanced voice services communicate with each other using the call setup and in-band signaling within the wireless communications network, such that at least one mobile switching center routes an originating leg of the advanced voice services from an originating mobile unit to the real-time exchange, the real-time exchange initiates one or more terminating legs of the advanced voice services to one or more terminating mobile units through at least one mobile switching center, and the real-time exchange switches the voice frames for the advanced voice services for the mobile units across the bearer paths and through at least one mobile switching center in the wireless communications network;

wherein the real-time exchange interfaces to one or more Internet or Intranet networks for exchanging data between at least one of the mobile units and at least one user on the Internet or Intranet networks, in order to provide the advanced voice services to the user on the Internet or Intranet networks; and

wherein network components are implemented in the wireless communications network or the Internet or Intranet networks for providing the converged mobile-Web communications solution to both the mobile units and the user on the Internet or Intranet networks.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the user on the Internet or Intranet network uses a web client or web widget to exchange the data with the mobile unit.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the converged mobile-Web communications solution displays the user's address book from the user's mobile unit on a web interface of the web client or web widget.

4. The system of claim 2 , wherein the converged mobile-Web communications solution displays the user's text messaging from the user's mobile unit on a web interface of the web client or web widget.

5. The system of claim 2 , wherein the converged mobile-Web communications solution initiates and receives calls with the mobile units in the wireless communications network on a web interface of the web client or web widget.

6. The system of claim 5 , wherein the calls are group calls made to a plurality of mobile units in the wireless communications network.

7. The system of claim 2 , wherein the converged mobile-Web communications solution initiates, receives or participates in advanced voice services provided within the wireless communications network on a web interface of the web client or web widget.

8. The system of claim 2 , wherein the converged mobile-Web communications solution obtains presence information for the mobile units in the wireless communications network for display on a web interface of the web client or web widget.

9. The system of claim 2 , wherein the converged mobile-Web communications solution sends and receives messages with the mobile units in the wireless communications network on a web interface of the web client or web widget.

10. The system of claim 2 , wherein the converged mobile-Web communications solution accesses the user's voice mail from the user's mobile unit on a web interface of the web client or web widget.

11. The system of claim 2 , wherein the converged mobile-Web communications solution performs simultaneous ringing to both the mobile unit in the wireless communications network and the web client or web widget in the Internet or Intranet network.

12. The system of claim 2 , wherein the converged mobile-Web communications solution transfers calls from the mobile unit in the wireless communications network to the web client or web widget in the Internet or Intranet network.

13. The system of claim 2 , wherein the converged mobile-Web communications solution transfers calls from the web client or web widget in the Internet or Intranet network to the mobile unit in the wireless communications network.

14. The system of claim 2 , wherein the converged mobile-Web communications solution synchronizes data between the mobile unit in the wireless communications network and the web client or web widget in the Internet or Intranet network.

15. A method for providing a converged mobile-Web communications solution in a wireless communications network, comprising:

providing a wireless communications network for making phone calls to and from mobile units, wherein the phone calls are initiated by call setup and in-band signaling within the wireless communications network and voice frames for the phone calls are switched between the mobile units across bearer paths in the wireless communications network; and

interfacing a real-time exchange to at least one mobile switching center in the wireless communications network to provide advanced voice services therein, without requiring any changes to the mobile switching center or other equipment of the wireless communications network to provide the advanced voice services;

wherein both the real-time exchange and the mobile units that use the advanced voice services communicate with each other using the call setup and in-band signaling within the wireless communications network, such that at least one mobile switching center routes an originating leg of the advanced voice services from an originating mobile unit to the real-time exchange, the real-time exchange initiates one or more terminating legs of the advanced voice services to one or more terminating mobile units through at least one mobile switching center, and the real-time exchange switches the voice frames for the advanced voice services for the mobile units across the bearer paths and through at least one mobile switching center in the wireless communications network;

wherein the real-time exchange interfaces to one or more Internet or Intranet networks for exchanging data between at least one of the mobile units and at least one user on the Internet or Intranet networks, in order to provide the advanced voice services to the user on the Internet or Intranet networks; and

wherein network components are implemented in the wireless communications network or the Internet or Intranet networks for providing the converged mobile-Web communications solution to both the mobile units and the user on the Internet or Intranet networks.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the user on the Internet or Intranet network uses a web client or web widget to exchange the data with the mobile unit.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the converged mobile-Web communications solution displays the user's address book from the user's mobile unit on a web interface of the web client or web widget.

18. The method of claim 16 , wherein the converged mobile-Web communications solution displays the user's text messaging from the user's mobile unit on a web interface of the web client or web widget.

19. The method of claim 16 , wherein the converged mobile-Web communications solution initiates and receives calls with the mobile units in the wireless communications network on a web interface of the web client or web widget.

20. The system of claim 19 , wherein the calls are group calls made to a plurality of mobile units in the wireless communications network.

21. The method of claim 16 , wherein the converged mobile-Web communications solution initiates, receives or participates in advanced voice services provided within the wireless communications network on a web interface of the web client or web widget.

22. The method of claim 16 , wherein the converged mobile-Web communications solution obtains presence information for the mobile units in the wireless communications network for display on a web interface of the web client or web widget.
