Abstract

Foaming alcohol compositions with selected dimethicone surfactants are disclosed. The dimethicone surfactants are PEG-8 to PEG-12 linear dimethicone surfactants and in particular PEG-10 linear dimethicone surfactant. The compositions are useful as antimicrobial products and in particular handcare or skincare products.

Claims (48)

1. A non-aerosol foaming antimicrobial composition comprising:

a) a foaming agent comprising a PEG-8 to PEG-12 linear dimethicone surfactant having an average foam height of greater than 20 mm;

b) an alcohol; and

c) water

wherein there is less than about 5 wt. % of an additional surfactant.

2. The composition of claim 1 wherein said alcohol is a lower chain alcohol.

3. The composition of claim 1 wherein said lower chain alcohol is in an amount of from about 50 to about 90 wt. % of said composition.

4. The antimicrobial composition of claim 1 , further comprising from about 0.01 to about 20 wt. % of a skin conditioner.

5. The antimicrobial composition of claim 1 , wherein the foam agent is a PEG-10 linear dimethicone surfactant.

6. The antimicrobial composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition is free of an additional surfactant.

7. The antimicrobial composition of claim 1 , further comprising from about 0.005 to about 5 wt. % of a terpenoid.

8. The antimicrobial composition of claim 4 , wherein said skin conditioner is selected from the group consisting of ethylhexylglycerin, hydroxyethylurea, urea, panthenol, glycerin, isopropyl myristate, propylene glycol, tocopheryl acetate, polyquaternium-11 and mixtures thereof.

9. An alcohol containing antimicrobial foaming composition comprising a PEG-8 to PEG-12 linear silicone surfactant foaming agent having an average foam height of greater than 20 mm; and further having less than about 5 wt. % additional surfactant.

10. The antimicrobial composition of claim 9 , wherein said composition is a liquid emulsion.

11. The antimicrobial composition of claim 9 , wherein said composition is a ready to use composition.

12. The antimicrobial composition of claim 9 , wherein said composition is a structured liquid composition.

13. The antimicrobial composition of claim 9 , wherein said composition is a water thin liquid composition.

14. A foaming antimicrobial composition comprising:

a) from about 0.5 to 1 grams of foaming agent surfactant having an average foam height of greater than 20 mm;

b) from about 50 to about 90 wt. % of at a C 2 to C 4 alcohol;

c) water;

wherein there is less than about 5 wt. % of an additional surfactant.

15. The antimicrobial composition of claim 14 , further comprising from about 0.01 to about 20 wt. % of a skin conditioner.

16. The antimicrobial composition of claim 14 , wherein the foam agent is a PEG-8 to PEG-12 linear dimethicone surfactant.

17. The antimicrobial composition of claim 14 , wherein the composition is free of an additional surfactant.

18. The antimicrobial composition of claim 1 , further comprising from about 0.005 to about 5 wt. % of a terpenoid.

19. The antimicrobial composition of claim 15 , wherein said skin conditioner is selected from the group consisting of ethylhexylglycerin, hydroxyethylurea, urea, panthenol, glycerin, isopropyl myristate, propylene glycol, tocopheryl acetate, polyquatemium-11 and mixtures thereof.

20. A foaming antimicrobial composition comprising:

a) from about 0.5 to about 1 gram of foaming agent surfactant having an average foam height of greater than 20 mm;

b) from about 50 to about 90 wt. % of at a lower chain alcohol;

c) water;

wherein there is less than about 5 wt. % of an additional surfactant.

21. The composition of claim 20 wherein said alcohol is a C 2 to C 4 alcohol.

22. The composition of claim 20 wherein said alcohol is in an amount of from about 50 to about 90 wt. % of said composition.

23. The antimicrobial composition of claim 20 , further comprising from about 0.01 to about 20 wt. % of a skin conditioner.

24. The antimicrobial composition of claim 20 , wherein the foam agent is a PEG-8 to PEG-12 linear dimethicone surfactant.

25. The antimicrobial composition of claim 20 , wherein the composition is free of an additional surfactant.

26. The antimicrobial composition of claim 20 , further comprising from about 0.005 to about 5 wt. % of a terpenoid.

27. The antimicrobial composition of claim 23 , wherein said skin conditioner is selected from the group consisting of ethylhexylglycerin, hydroxyethylurea, urea, panthenol, glycerin, isopropyl myristate, propylene glycol, tocopheryl acetate, polyquatemium-11 and mixtures thereof.

28. A method of for reducing microorganisms on a target surface comprising:

applying to said target surface a non-aerosol foaming antimicrobial composition comprising:

a) a foaming agent comprising a PEG-8 to PEG-12 linear dimethicone surfactant having an average foam height of greater than 20 mm;

b) an alcohol; and

c) water

wherein there is less than about 5 wt. % of an additional surfactant.

29. The method of claim 28 wherein said surface is a skin surface.

30. The method of claim 28 wherein said skin surface is a facial skin surface.

31. The method of claim 28 wherein said skin surface is a hand skin surface.
