Abstract

An apparatus and method are disclosed that may include a contact pin; and a plurality of loops of conductive wire, coated with insulation material, disposed in proximity to the contact pin, wherein along at least one portion of the conductive wire, at least one edge of the contact pin extends through the insulation material and thereby forms conductive electrical contact with the conductive wire.

Claims (27)

1. A method comprising:

providing a wrap of conductive wire coated with insulation material to form a plurality of loops of the conductive wire; and

advancing a contact pin with respect to the plurality of loops of at least one conductive wire to cut through the insulation material and establish a conductive electrical connection between the contact pin and at least one of the conductive wire loops.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the providing a wrap step comprises:

wrapping the conductive wire about a bobbin having a hollow portion therein configured to receive the contact pin; and wherein the advancing step comprises:

advancing the contact pin into the hollow portion of the bobbin and thereby impinging on portions of the plurality of conductive wire loops facing an interior of the bobbin.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the providing a wrap step comprises:

wrapping the conductive wire about the exterior of the contact pin.

4. The method of claim 3 wherein the advancing step further comprises:

moving plurality of wire loops with respect to the contact pin, thereby causing the contact pin to cut through the insulation material on the wire loops, and to establish conductive electrical contact between the wire loops and the contact pin.

5. A method comprising:

providing a connector having a connector pin extending therefrom, wherein the connector pin has a root connected to a body of the connector and a tip, and wherein the connector pin includes one or more edges extending along a length thereof;

wrapping insulated conductive wire around the connector pin to form a plurality of wire loops, the insulated conductive wire including insulation material coating the wire; and

moving one or more of the loops of insulated conductive wire along a length of the pin, thereby causing the one or more edges of the pin to cut through the insulation material and to establish conductive electrical contact with the wire loops.

6. The method of claim 5 wherein the moving step comprises:

gathering the plurality of wire loops into greater proximity to one another.

7. The method of claim 5 wherein the moving step comprises pushing one or more of the wire loops toward the root of the connector pin.

8. The method of claim 7 wherein the pushing step comprises:

pressing on a first wire loop closest to the tip of the pin using a pushing tool configured to move past the tip of the pin without contacting the pin itself.

9. The method of claim 8 wherein the pushing step further comprises:

causing the first wire loop and a succession of wire loops located inward of the first wire loop into a confined space such that linear gaps between adjacent ones of the succession of wire loops are substantially eliminated.

10. The method of claim 5 further comprising:

attaching a shrink wrap about the connector pin and the conductive wire loops.

11. The method of claim 10 further comprising:

placing an adhesive layer along an interior surface of the shrink wrap.

12. The method of claim 11 further comprising:

disposing conductive particles within the adhesive layer.
