Claims (11)

1. A method for increasing intestinal motility in a patient, the method comprising administering to the patient an effective amount of a peptide comprising the amino acid sequence Cys Cys Glu Tyr Cys Cys Asn Pro Ala Cys Thr Gly Cys (SEQ ID NO:125) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the peptide consists of the amino acid sequence Cys Cys Glu Tyr Cys Cys Asn Pro Ala Cys Thr Gly Cys (SEQ ID NO:125) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

3. A method for treating a patient for a gastrointestinal disorder, the method comprising administering to the patient an effective amount of a peptide comprising the amino acid sequence Cys Cys Glu Tyr Cys Cys Asn Pro Ala Cys Thr Gly Cys (SEQ ID NO:125) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the peptide consists of the amino acid sequence Cys Cys Glu Tyr Cys Cys Asn Pro Ala Cys Thr Gly Cys (SEQ ID NO:125) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

5. The method of claim 3 , wherein the gastrointestinal disorder is selected from the group consisting of: irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, a gastrointestinal motility disorder, gastroesophageal reflux disease, functional heartburn, dyspepsia, gastroparesis, chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction and colonic pseudo-obstruction.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the gastrointestinal disorder is constipation.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the constipation is chronic constipation, idiopathic constipation, constipation due to post-operative ileus, or constipation caused by opiate use.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the constipation is chronic constipation.

9. The method of claim 5 , wherein the gastrointestinal disorder is irritable bowel syndrome.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the irritable bowel syndrome is constipation-predominant irritable bowel syndrome.

11. The method of claim 9 , wherein the irritable bowel syndrome is alternating irritable bowel syndrome.
