Abstract

Techniques are provided for displaying information regarding customizations made to an application. The information may be displayed in a design-time environment and/or a runtime environment.

Claims (35)

1. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing a plurality of instructions for controlling a processor, the plurality of instructions comprising:

instructions that cause the processor to determine an execution path traced by an application for processing an input, the execution path comprising a plurality of elements of the application;

instructions that cause the processor to determine delta information for the application, the delta information related to one or more customizations made to the application;

instructions that cause the processor to determine, based upon the delta information, a first element, from the plurality of elements, that has been customized, and a second element that is a descendant of the first element, wherein the second element is a customization made to the first element; and

instructions that cause the processor to display the execution path comprising the plurality of elements, wherein a first identifier is displayed with the first element to indicate the first element as being customized, and wherein a second identifier is displayed with the second element to indicate the second element as being the customization of the first element.

2. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 1 :

wherein the instructions that cause the processor to display the execution path comprise instructions that cause the processor to display the second element such that the second element is identifiable as being a customization.

3. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 2 wherein the first element is a composite element and the second element is a component element.

The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 3 wherein the component element is implemented using Business Process Execution Language (BPEL), Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN), XML Schema Definition (XSD), Web Services Definition Language (WSDL), Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL), or an XML-expressed model.

5. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 2 wherein the first element is a component element and the second element is a group of one or more activities in the component element.

6. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 2 wherein the first element is a first group of one or more activities and the second element is a second group of one or more activities.

7. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 1 wherein the delta information is stored in XML format.

8. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing a plurality of instructions for controlling a processor, the plurality of instructions comprising:

instructions that cause the processor to determine delta information for an application, the delta information related to one or more customizations made to the application, the application comprising a plurality of elements;

instructions that cause the processor to determine, based upon the delta information, a first element, from the plurality of elements, that has been customized, and a second element that is a descendant of the first element, wherein the second element is a customization made to the first element; and

instructions that cause the processor to display a graphical representation for the application, wherein a first identifier is displayed with the first element to indicate the first element as being customized, and wherein a second identifier is displayed with the second element to indicate the second element as being the customization of the first element.

9. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 8 :

wherein the instructions that cause the processor to display the graphical representation comprise instructions that cause the processor to display the second element such that the second element is identifiable as being a customization.

The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 9 wherein the second element is a component element implemented using Business Process Execution Language (BPEL), Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN), XML Schema Definition (XSD), Web Services Definition Language (WSDL), Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL), or an XML-expressed model.

11. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 9 wherein the first element is a component element and the second element is a group of one or more activities in the component element.

12. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 8 wherein the delta information is stored in XML format.

13. A system comprising:

a memory configured to store data for an application; and

a processor communicatively coupled with the memory, the processor configured to:

determine an execution path traced by an application for processing an input, the execution path comprising a plurality of elements of the application;

determine delta information for the application from data stored for the application, the delta information related to one or more customizations made to the application;

determine, based upon the delta information, a first element, from the plurality of elements, that has been customized, and a second element that is a descendant of the first element, wherein the second element is a customization made to the first element; and

cause the execution path comprising the plurality of elements to be displayed, wherein a first identifier is displayed with the first element to indicate the first element as being customized, and wherein a second identifier is displayed with the second element to indicate the second element as being the customization of the first element.

14. The system of claim 13 wherein the processor is configured to:

display the execution path such that the second element is identifiable as being a customization.

15. The system of claim 14 wherein the first element is a composite element and the second element is a component element.

The system of claim 15 wherein the component element is implemented using Business Process Execution Language (BPEL), Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN), XML Schema Definition (XSD), Web Services Definition Language (WSDL), Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL), or an XML-expressed model.

17. The system of claim 14 wherein the first element is a component element and the second element is a group of one or more activities in the component element.

18. The system of claim 14 wherein the first element is a first group of one or more activities and the second element is a second group of one or more activities.

19. The system of claim 13 wherein the delta information is stored in XML format.
