Abstract

A method and system for detecting slow page load is provided. An example system comprises a page request detector, a time-out module, a time-out monitor, and a lightweight page requestor. The page request detector may be configured to detect a request for a web page. The time-out module may be configured to commence a time-out period in response to a request for a web page. The time-out module cooperates with the time-out monitor that may be configured to determine that rendering of a rich version of the requested web page has not commenced at an expiration of the time-out period. The lightweight page requestor may be configured to cause a lightweight version of the requested page to be provided to the client system when the time-out monitor determines that the rendering of a rich version of the requested web page has not commenced at an expiration of the time-out period.

Claims (33)

1. A computer-implemented system comprising:

at least one processor coupled to a memory, the at least one processor comprising:

a page request detector to detect a request for a web page communicated from a client computer to a web server,

a time-out module to commence a time-out period in response to the request for the web page,

a time-out monitor to determine that rendering of a rich version of the requested page has not commenced at an expiration of the time-out period, and

a lightweight page requestor to cause a lightweight version of the requested page to be provided to the client computer in response to the determining.

2. The system of claim 1 , comprising a pop-up module to activate a pop-up window, the pop up window to display a recommendation to request a lightweight version of the requested web page.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the lightweight page requestor is to automatically request from the web server a lightweight version of the requested web page.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the slow loading of the requested page is associated with processing resources at the client computer.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the slow loading of the requested page is associated with a speed of a network connection between the client computer and the web server.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the loading of the requested page is associated with a JavaScript engine provided at the client computer.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the time-out module and the time-out monitor are implemented as a JavaScript script.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the time-out module and the time-out monitor are provided to the client computer from the web server.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein a network connection between the client computer and the web server is a transmission control protocol (TCP) connection.

10. The system of claim 1 , comprising a communications module to receive the lightweight version of the requested web page.

11. A computer-implemented method comprising:

detecting a request for a web page communicated from a client computer to a web server;

commencing a time-out period in response to the request for the web page;

determining that rendering of a rich version of the requested page has not commenced at an expiration of the time-out period; and

causing a lightweight version of the requested page to be provided to the client computer in response to the determining.

The method of claim 11 , comprising activating a pop-up window in response to the determining that determining that the rendering of the rich version of the requested page has not commenced at the expiration of the time-out period, the pop up window to display a recommendation to request a lightweight version of the requested web page.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the lightweight page requestor is to automatically request from the web server a lightweight version of the requested web page.

14. The method of claim 11 , wherein the slow loading of the requested page is associated with processing resources at the client computer.

15. The method of claim 11 , wherein the slow loading of the requested page is associated with a speed of a network connection between the client computer and the web server.

16. The method of claim 11 , wherein the loading of the requested page is associated with a JavaScript engine provided at the client computer.

17. The method of claim 11 , wherein the time-out module and the time-out monitor are implemented as a JavaScript script.

18. The method of claim 17 , wherein the time-out module and the time-out monitor are provided to the client computer from the web server.

19. The method of claim 11 , wherein a network connection between the client computer and the web server is a transmission control protocol (TCP) connection.

20. A machine-readable non-transitory storage medium having instruction data to cause a machine to perform operations comprising:

detecting a request for a web page communicated from a client computer to a web server;

commencing a time-out period in response to the request for a web page;

determining that rendering of a rich version of the requested page has not commenced at an expiration of the time-out period; and

causing a lightweight version of the requested page to be provided to the client computer in response to the determining.
