Abstract

Disclosed is L-glucose monohydrate and compositions thereof. Also disclosed are methods for making L-glucose monohydrate and compositions thereof. Further disclosed are methods for colonic cleansing using L-sugars, such as L-glucose monohydrate, and compositions and kits useful for colonic cleansing.

Claims (21)

1. A method for colonic cleansing comprising administering to a subject a first dose comprising from about 36 to about 72 g of L-glucose, and a second dose comprising from about 36 to about 72 g of L-glucose within a 24 hour period.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first dose is administered the night before the subject undergoes a colonoscopy, and the second dose is administered the morning of, but prior to, the colonoscopy.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the L-glucose is L-glucose monohydrate.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the first dose comprises about 52.8 g L-glucose monohydrate, and the second dose comprises about 52.8 g L-glucose monohydrate.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the first dose is administered the night before the subject undergoes a colonoscopy, and the second dose is administered the morning of, but prior to, the colonoscopy.

6. The method of claim 4 , wherein each dose of L-glucose monohydrate is dissolved in about 8 ounces of water.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first dose comprises from about 45 g to about 55 g of L-glucose, and the second dose comprises from about 45 g to about 55 g of L-glucose.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first dose comprises at least about 48 g of L-glucose, and the second dose comprises at least 48 g of L-glucose.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the two doses are administered to the subject is prior to the subject undergoing a colonoscopy.

10. A method for colon cleansing in a subject comprising:

(a) administering to the subject an aqueous solution containing from about 36 to about 72 g L-glucose (based on the weight of base L-glucose) at night, and

(b) administering to the subject an aqueous solution containing from about 36 to about 72 g L-glucose the following morning.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the subject is undergoing a colonoscopy, step (a) is performed the night before the colonoscopy, and step (b) is performed the morning of, but prior to, the colonoscopy.

12. The method of claim 10 , wherein the L-glucose is L-glucose monohydrate.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein each aqueous solution is prepared by dissolving L-glucose monohydrate in water.

14. A method for colon cleansing in a subject undergoing a colonoscopy comprising:

(a) administering to the subject an aqueous solution containing about 48 g L-glucose (based on the weight of base L-glucose) the night before the colonoscopy, and

(b) administering to the subject an aqueous solution containing about 48 g L-glucose the morning of, but prior to, the colonoscopy.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the L-glucose is L-glucose monohydrate.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein each aqueous solution is prepared by dissolving L-glucose monohydrate in water.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein each dose of L-glucose monohydrate is dissolved in about 8 ounces of water.
