Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating secure operations of a wireless device
View Patent ↗An apparatus, and an associated method, facilitates security relating to installation of, such as downloading of, and application at a wireless device. When selection is made to install the application, a security decision is required of a trusted, third-party to install the application. A request is made of a trusted, third-party entity for the security decision. Responsive to the security decision, the application is either allowed to be downloaded to the wireless device or prohibited from being downloaded to the wireless device.
1. A method for facilitating secure wireless-device operation, said method comprising:
detecting occurrence of an event at a wireless device that necessitates a security decision, the event related to an application at the wireless device, and the security decision related to the application;
generating a request on behalf of the wireless device for a security decision relating to operation of the application responsive to detection during said detecting; and
selecting to allow operation of the application at the wireless device together with a restriction on the operation thereof, responsive to the security decision indicating allowance of operation of the application together with the restriction, wherein the selecting to allow is subject to an acceptance of the restriction;
communicating the restriction to the wireless device; and
allowing the operation of the application with the restriction responsive to the acceptance of the restriction at the wireless device.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said detecting occurrence of the event comprises detecting selection to install the application at the wireless device.
3. The method of claim 2 , wherein said detecting occurrence of the event comprises detecting selection to run the application at the wireless device.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein said detecting is performed at an enterprise entity.
5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising disallowing the operation of the application with the restriction responsive to no acceptance of the restriction at the wireless device.
6. The method of claim 1 wherein said detecting the occurrence of the event comprises detecting selection to install the application at the wireless device and wherein said method further comprises installing the application at the wireless device, subject to the restriction.
7. The method of claim 1 , wherein said selecting control of operation of the application comprises selecting to allow operation of the application responsive to the security decision indicating allowance of operation of the application.
8. The method of claim 1 , wherein said detecting the occurrence of the event comprises detecting selection to install the application, and wherein said method further comprises installing the application at the wireless device.
9. The method of claim 1 , wherein said detecting the occurrence of the event is performed at a remote, network-connected entity.
10. The method of claim 1 , wherein said detecting the occurrence of the event is performed at a computing station directly connectable to the wireless device.
11. An apparatus for facilitating secure operation of a wireless device, said apparatus comprising:
a processor configured:
to detect occurrence of an event at the wireless device that necessitates a security decision, the event related to an application at the wireless device and the security decision related to the application;
to generate a request on behalf of the wireless device for a security decision relating to operation of the application responsive to detection made by said detector responsive to detection of the occurrence of the event; and to select to allow operation of the application at the wireless device together with a restriction on the operation thereof, responsive to the security decision indicating allowance of operation of the application together with the restriction, wherein the operation is subject to an acceptance of the restriction at the wireless device, and wherein said selector communicates the restriction to the wireless device and allows the operation of the application with the restriction responsive to the acceptance of the restriction at the wireless device.
12. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the wireless device communicates with an enterprise entity and wherein said processor is configured to detect, to generate, and to select at the enterprise entity.
13. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the wireless device communicates with a network-connected entity, and wherein said processor is configured to detect, to generate, and to select at the network-connected entity.
14. The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the network-connected entity comprises an application source.
15. The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the network-connected entity comprises a computing station directly connectable to the wireless device.
16. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein said processor is configured to detect selection to download the application to the wireless device.
17. The apparatus of claim 16 , wherein said processor is further configured to download the application subsequent to selection by said selector to permit downloading of the application.
