Printhead integrated circuit with thermally sensing heater elements
View Patent ↗A printhead integrated circuit including a MEMS layer having a plurality of nozzle assemblies and a CMOS layer having control circuitry. Each nozzle assembly includes a heater element for ejecting ink and sensing a temperature of the nozzle assembly. The control circuitry modifies operation of the heater elements in response to a sensed temperature exceeding a predetermined threshold.
1. A printhead integrated circuit comprising:
a MEMS layer comprising a plurality of nozzle assemblies, each nozzle assembly comprising a heater element for ejecting ink and for sensing a temperature of the nozzle assembly; and
a CMOS layer comprising control circuitry for modifying operation of one or more heater elements in response to a sensed temperature exceeding a predetermined threshold.
2. A printhead integrated circuit according to claim 1 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to prevent actuation of one or more heater elements for ejection of ink when the sensed temperature exceeds said predetermined threshold.
3. A printhead integrated circuit according to claim 2 , wherein the modification includes preventing actuation of one or more heater elements for ejection of ink for a predetermined period.
4. A printhead integrated circuit according to claim 1 , wherein each heater element senses the temperature by determining a resistance of the heating element.
5. An inkjet printhead comprising a plurality of printhead integrated circuits according to claim 1 .
