Abstract

A method for submitting transactions from an automated trading tool to an electronic exchange. The method includes defining a proximity limit and automatically generating a transaction for a tradeable object. The method further includes applying the proximity limit to the transaction. When the transaction falls within the defined proximity limit, the transaction is submitted to the exchange. An apparatus and interface for transaction toggling based on proximity limits are also provided.

Claims (34)

1. A method for submitting orders from an automated trading tool to an electronic exchange, the method comprising:

generating, via a computer device, an order message for an order to trade a first tradeable object with a price based on a spread price and an inside market for a second tradeable object, where the spread price is for a spread between the first tradeable object and the second tradeable object, and where the inside market for the second tradeable object includes a highest bid price for the second tradeable object and a lowest ask price for the second tradeable object;

determining a price range via the computer device, the price range determined according to a proximity limit and a reference price for the first tradeable object;

comparing, via the computer device, the price with the price range; and

submitting, via the computer device, the order message to the electronic exchange according to comparing the price with the price range.

2. The method of claim 1 where the proximity limit is based on a number of ticks away from the reference price.

3. The method of claim 2 where the number of ticks is selectable.

4. The method of claim 3 where the number of ticks selected by a user.

5. The method of claim 2 where the number of ticks comprises a first number of ticks greater than the reference price and a second number of ticks less than the reference price.

6. The method of claim 5 where the first number of ticks and the second number of ticks are different.

7. The method of claim 1 where submitting the order to the electronic exchange according to comparing the price with the price range further comprises blocking the order from being submitted when the price is outside the price range.

8. The method of claim 1 where submitting the order to the electronic exchange according to comparing the price with the price range further comprises submitting the order when the price is within the price range.

9. The method of claim 1 where the reference price is based on a price in market data corresponding to the first tradeable object.

10. The method of claim 1 where the reference price comprises an inside market for the first tradeable object having a highest bid price for the first tradeable object and a lowest ask price for the first tradeable object.

11. The method of claim 1 where the reference price comprises a last traded price for the first tradeable object.

12. The method of claim 1 where the proximity limit is based on any of a cumulative depth, time, and an equation.

13. The method of claim 1 where the first tradeable object and the second tradeable object are substantially the same.

14. The method of claim 1 where the first tradeable object and the second tradeable object are different.

15. The method of claim 1 , further comprising adjusting the proximity limit based on a market for the second tradeable object.

16. The method of claim 1 where the order comprises a new working order to trade the first tradeable object.

17. The method of claim 1 where the order replaces an existing working order to trade the first tradeable object.

18. A computer readable medium having instructions stored therein for causing a processor to carry out acts comprising:

generating, via a computer device, an order message for an order to trade a first tradeable object with a price based on a spread price and an inside market for a second tradeable object, where the spread price is for a spread between the first tradeable object and the second tradeable object, and where the inside market for the second tradeable object includes a highest bid price for the second tradeable object and a lowest ask price for the second tradeable object;

determining a price range via the computer device, the price range determined according to a proximity limit and a reference price for the first tradeable object;

comparing, via the computer device, the price with the price range; and

submitting, via the computer device, the order message to the electronic exchange according to comparing the price with the price range.

19. A method for submitting orders from an automated trading tool to an electronic exchange, the method comprising:

generating, via a computer device, a first order message for a first order for a first tradeable object with a first price based on a spread price and an inside market for a second tradeable object, where the spread price is for a spread between the first tradeable object and the second tradeable object, and where the inside market for the second tradeable object includes a highest bid price for the second tradeable object and a lowest ask price for the second tradeable object;

generating, via the computer device, a second order message for a second order for the second tradeable with a second price based on the spread price and an inside market for the first tradeable object, where the inside market for the first tradeable object includes a highest bid price for the first tradeable object and a lowest ask price for the first tradeable object;

comparing the first price with a first price range via the computer device, the first price range determined according to a first proximity limit for the first tradeable object and a first reference price for the first tradeable object;

comparing the second price with a second price range via the computer device, the second price range determined according to a second proximity limit for the second tradeable object and a second reference price for the second tradeable object; and

submitting the first order message to the electronic exchange according to comparing the first price with the first price range and the second order message to the electronic exchange according to comparing the second price with the second price range.

20. The method of claim 19 where submitting the first order to the electronic exchange according to comparing the first price with the first price range further comprises blocking the first order from being submitted when the first price is outside the first price range and where submitting the second order to the electronic exchange according to comparing the second price with the second price range further comprises blocking the second order from being submitted when the second price is outside the second price range.

21. The method of claim 19 where submitting the first order to the electronic exchange according to comparing the first price with the first price range further comprises submitting the first order when the first price is within the first price range and where submitting the second order to the electronic exchange according to comparing the second price with the second price range further comprises submitting the second order when the second price is within the second price range.
