Abstract

A printer assembly includes a media housing unit having a number of ink reservoirs internally defined by a core portion around which print media is rolled; an ink supply and a printhead unit attached to the media housing unit; an ink manifold provided between the ink supply and the printhead, the ink manifold having an aperture to which the printhead is attached; a drive unit having a platen for extracting the print media from the media housing unit and feeding the print media past the printhead unit, the drive unit defining ink transmission channels interposed between the ink reservoirs and the ink supply; and a controller for controlling operation of the printhead and drive units, the controller configured to maintain the printhead at an equilibrium temperature during printing.

Claims (12)

1 . A printer assembly comprising:

a media housing unit having a number of ink reservoirs internally defined by a core portion around which print media is rolled;

an ink supply and a printhead unit attached to the media housing unit;

an ink manifold provided between the ink supply and the printhead, the ink manifold having an aperture to which the printhead is attached;

a drive unit having a platen for extracting the print media from the media housing unit and feeding the print media past the printhead unit, the drive unit defining ink transmission channels interposed between the ink reservoirs and the ink supply; and

a controller for controlling operation of the printhead and drive units, the controller configured to maintain the printhead at an equilibrium temperature during printing.

2 . The print assembly if claim 1 , wherein the printhead unit includes a guillotine blade assembly to cut the print media.

3 . The printer assembly of claim 2 , wherein the ink supply and printhead unit includes an aluminium blade along which the guillotine blade assembly is driven to facilitate cutting of the print media.

4 . The printer assembly of claim 1 , wherein the core portion includes a former dividing the core into the number of elongate ink reservoirs.

5 . The printer assembly of claim 1 , wherein the ink supply and the printhead unit includes a series of breather holes, the breather holes being hydrophobically sealed to allow air within the ink storage chambers to escape whilst inhibiting egress of the ink.

6 . The printer assembly of claim 1 , wherein the ink storage chambers include a baffle unit having a number of slats arranged transversely in the elongate chambers.

7 . The printer assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a filter arranged around the ink manifold to filter ink passing through the ink manifold.
