Abstract

A viscose fiber comprises a fiber body including a regenerated cellulosic material and a plurality of microcapsules dispersed in the regenerated cellulosic material. The regenerated cellulosic material is derived from an organic plant material and the plurality of microcapsules containing a phase change material has a transition temperature in the range of 0° C. to 100° C., the phase change material providing thermal regulation based on at least one of absorption and release of latent heat at the transition temperature.

Claims (21)

1. A viscose fiber comprising:

a fiber body including a regenerated cellulosic material and a plurality of microcapsules dispersed in the regenerated cellulosic material, the regenerated cellulosic material derived from bamboo wood, the plurality of microcapsules containing a phase change material having a transition temperature in the range of 0° C. to 100° C., the phase change material providing thermal regulation based on at least one of absorption and release of latent heat at the transition temperature.

2. The viscose fiber of claim 1 , wherein the phase change material has a transition temperature in the range of 15° C. to 85° C.

3. The viscose fiber of claim 1 , wherein the phase change material has a transition temperature in the range of 15° C. to 70° C.

4. The viscose fiber of claim 1 , wherein the phase change material has a transition temperature in the range of 15° C. to 55° C.

5. The viscose fiber of claim 1 , wherein the latent heat is in the range of 1.0 Joule per gram and 10.0 Joules per gram.

6. The viscose fiber of claim 1 , wherein the latent heat is in the range of 5.0 Joules per gram and 20.0 Joules per gram.

7. The viscose fiber of claim 1 , further comprising an additive selected from the group consisting of light or UV stabilizers, microwave absorbing additives, reinforcing agents, lubricants, fire retardants, anti-static additives, anti-microbials, crosslinkers or controlled degradation agents, colorants, pigments, dyes, stain resistance agents, water repellency agents, and moisture management agents.

8. A cellulose polymer fiber comprising:

a fiber body including a cellulose polymer material and a non-encapsulated phase change material dispersed in the cellulose polymer material, the non-encapsulated phase change material forming a plurality of domains dispersed in the cellulose polymer material, the non-encapsulated phase change material having a latent heat of at least 15 Joules per gram and a transition temperature in the range of 0° C. to 100° C., the non-encapsulated phase change material providing thermal regulation based on at least one of absorption and release of latent heat at the transition temperature.

9. The cellulose polymer fiber of claim 8 , wherein the cellulose is chemically modified by one of blending, crosslinking, hydrogen bonding, entangling or functional group conversion.

10. The cellulose polymer fiber of claim 9 , wherein the chemical modification increases the heat resistance of the cellulose polymer fiber.

11. The cellulose polymer fiber of claim 9 , wherein the chemical modification increases the moisture resistance of the cellulose polymer fiber.

12. The cellulose polymer fiber of claim 8 , wherein the cellulose polymer is altered by the replacement of or addition of a functional group.

13. The cellulose polymer fiber of claim 12 wherein the functional group is selected from the group consisting of amine, amide, carboxyl, hydroxyl, ester, ether, epoxide, anhydride, isocyanate, silane, ketone, and aldehyde.

14. The cellulose polymer fiber of claim 8 , wherein the cellulose polymer is crosslinked or modified with a coupling agent.

15. The cellulose polymer fiber of claim 14 , wherein the coupling agent is selected from the group consisting of silanes, titanates, zirconates, fatty acid salts, anhydrides, epoxies, and unsaturated polymeric acids.

16. The cellulose polymer fiber of claim 8 further comprising an additive selected from the group consisting of additives for stain resistance, water repellency, softer feel, and moisture management.

17. A viscose fiber comprising:

a fiber body including a regenerated cellulosic material and a non-encapsulated phase change material, the regenerated cellulosic material derived from an organic plant material, the non-encapsulated phase change material having a transition temperature in the range of 0° C. to 100° C., the non-encapsulated phase change material providing thermal regulation based on at least one of absorption and release of latent heat at the transition temperature.

18. The viscose fiber of claim 17 , wherein the plant material is selected from the group consisting of leaves, wood, bark, and cotton.
