Abstract

A row crop header for a harvester having a subframe removably coupleable to a feeder housing of the harvester. A pivot assembly is supported by the subframe permitting first and second header sections to pivotably move between raised and lowered positions together or independently of the other. A cross-auger center suspension assembly rotatably supports one end of the first cross-auger section and one end of the second cross-auger section as the first and second header sections pivotally move between the raised and lowered positions.

Claims (25)

1. A row crop header for a harvester, comprising:

a subframe removably coupleable to a feeder housing of a harvester, the feeder housing having a central longitudinal axis;

a pivot assembly supported by said subframe, said pivot assembly having at least one pivot axis disposed substantially parallel with the feeder housing central longitudinal axis when coupled thereto;

a first header section having a plurality of fore and aft row extending units and a first cross-auger section, said first header section pivotably movable about said at least one pivot axis between a raised position and a lowered position;

a second header section having a plurality of fore and aft extending row units and a second cross-auger section, said second header section pivotably movable about said at least one pivot axis between a raised position and a lowered position;

at least one actuator coupled to selectively pivotally move said first and second header sections about said at least one pivot axis between said raised and lowered positions;

a cross-auger center suspension assembly rotatably supporting one end of said first cross-auger section and one end of said second cross-auger section as said first and second header sections pivotally move between said raised and lowered positions;

wherein said subframe comprises;

a top horizontal member, a bottom horizontal member, a left vertical member, and a right vertical member defining an interior frame opening having dimensions substantially corresponding in size to the feeder housing;

left and right slide plates fixed to said subframe;

left and right slide brackets fixed to said first and second header sections respectively, said slide brackets disposed to overlap with and slideably receive said left and right slide plates respectively, whereby said overlapping slide brackets and said slide plates cooperate to resist said first and second header sections from tending to tip forward causing bending stress on said pivot assembly.

2. The row crop header of claim 1 wherein said pivot assembly includes laterally spaced first and second pivot axis and wherein said first header section is pivotably moveable about said first pivot axis and said second header section is pivotably moveable about said second pivot axis.

3. The row crop header of claim 2 further comprising first and second actuators, said first actuator coupled to selectively pivotally move said first header section about said first pivot axis between said raised and lowered positions, said second actuator coupled to selectively pivotally move said second header section about said second pivot axis between said raised and lowered positions.

4. The row crop header of claim 3 wherein said first and second actuators comprise hydraulic actuators coupled with the harvester's hydraulic system.

5. The row crop header of claim 4 further comprising a flow control valve hydraulically coupled between the harvester's hydraulic system and said first and second hydraulic actuators.

6. The row crop header of claim 5 further comprising first and second open/close valves hydraulically coupled between said flow control valve and said first and second hydraulic actuators.

7. The row crop header of claim 3 wherein said pivot assembly comprises:

laterally spaced, parallel, first and second pins extending from said subframe;

first and second bushings rotatable receiving said first and second pins, respectively;

wherein said first and second header sections are secured to said first and second bushings, respectively, whereby actuation of said first and second actuators cause said first and second header sections to pivot about said first and second pins, respectively.

8. The row crop header of claim 1 wherein said left and right slide plates each have upper and lower arcuate edges whereby said arcuate edges provide sufficient clearance with said overlapping slide brackets to avoid interference with said slide brackets as the first and second header sections move between said raised and lowered positions.

9. The row crop header of claim 1 further comprising:

lubricious wear plates disposed between said overlapping slide plates and slide brackets to reduce wear and friction therebetween as the first and second header sections move between said raised and lowered positions.

10. The row crop header of claim 1 wherein said at least one actuator comprises at least one hydraulic actuator coupled with the harvester's hydraulic system.

11. The row crop header of claim 10 further comprising a flow control valve hydraulically coupled between the harvester's hydraulic system and said at least one hydraulic actuator.
