View Patent ↗The invention is related to a method of decreasing hepatotoxic side effects using an A2B adenosine receptor antagonist and utility in the treatment of liver damage caused by undergoing hepatotoxic treatment, such as chemotherapy or radiation. The invention also relates to pharmaceutical compositions for use in the method.
1. A method of decreasing the hepatotoxic side effects of chemotherapy or radiation by administering to a mammal undergoing such treatment a therapeutically effective amount of a compound having the name 3-ethyl-1-propyl-8-(1-{[3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]methyl}pyrazol-4-yl)-1,3,7-trihydropurine-2,6-dione and the chemical formula
or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the compound is administered prior to the initiation of chemotherapeutic or radiation treatment.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein compound is administered concurrently with the administration of the chemotherapeutic agent.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the compound is administered orally.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the compound is administered by IV.
6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the mammal is human.
