Color Selection and Application Method for Image and/or Text-Based Projects Created Through an Online Editing Tool
In a system for creating and editing image and or text-based projects including a server connected to a data network, the server having access to a digital medium containing an executable graphics user interface (GUI) accessible by computer browser, the GUI for contributing and editing content, a method for selecting a color from the display for application to content includes the steps (a) selecting or invoking a color reading tool, (b) moving the tool over the display monitor to read and preview colors using mouse movement, and (c) selecting a color read by the tool.

In a system for creating and editing image and or text-based projects including a server connected to a data network, the server having access to a digital medium containing an executable graphics user interface (GUI) accessible by computer browser, the GUI for contributing and editing content, a method for selecting a color from the display for application to content comprising the steps:
(a) selecting or invoking a color reading tool;
(b) moving the tool over the display monitor to read and preview colors using mouse movement; and
(c) selecting a color read by the tool.
2 . The method of claim 1 practiced on the Internet.
3 . The method of claim 2 wherein the GUI is accessible through a Web page.
4 . The method of claim 1 wherein in step (a), the color reading tool is adapted to read any color of any pixel or set of pixels.
5 . The method of claim 1 wherein in step (a) the tool is selected from a toolbar or toolbar menu that appears when content is being selected for edit.
6 . The method of claim 1 wherein in step (a) the tool is invoked via execution of a keyboard command.
7 . The method of claim 1 wherein in step (b) the colors are automatically previewed in the content selected for edit, the content including text and or graphics.
8 . The method of claim 7 wherein the automatic preview is enabled by mouse over of any colors on the display monitor whether relative to the project or not.
9 . The method of claim 1 wherein in step (c), selecting a color is achieved via mouse single or double click.
10 . The method of claim 1 wherein in step (c), the selected color is saved to a color swath or palette.
11 . The method of claim 1 wherein in step (c), the color is applied to one, more than one, or all of the selected items under edit.
12 . The method of claim 1 wherein in step (c), the selected color is mixed with one or more other colors.
13 . The method of claim 1 wherein in step (c) there are more than one selected color and wherein those selected colors are prioritized by rank or importance.
14 . The method of claim 1 further including a step (d) for receiving recommendation data or statistical data about a color or colors selected in step (C).
15 . The method of claim 14 wherein the received recommendation is in the form of a text message that appears in the GUI as a pop-up message.
16 . The method of claim 14 wherein the recommendation or statistical data includes color ranking or current color value established through previous user statistics.
