Process for Recommending Photos for Single or Multiple Photo-Bearing Products Editable in an Online Collage Editor
In a server-based system for creating and editing image and or text-based projects, the system having access to a digital medium containing an executable graphics user interface (GUI) accessible by computer browser, a method is provided for selecting a photo from a plurality of photos placed in the project by a project contributor for recommendation in a photo product. The method includes the steps (a) accessing the contributor's project photos stored in the database, (b) weighting data associated with each photo used in the project against one or more business rules, (c) selecting one or more photos based on the weighting results of step (b), and (d) recommending one or more photo products containing one or more photos selected at step (c) to the contributor at an appropriate time.

In a server-based system for creating and editing image and or text-based projects, the system having access to a digital medium containing an executable graphics user interface (GUI) accessible by computer browser, a method for selecting a photo from a plurality of photos placed in the project by a project contributor for recommendation in a photo product comprising the steps:
(a) accessing the contributor's project photos stored in the database;
(b) weighting data associated with each photo used in the project against one or more business rules;
(c) selecting one or more photos based on the weighting results of step (b); and
(d) recommending one or more photo products containing one or more photos selected at step (c) to the contributor at an appropriate time.
2 . The method of claim 1 practiced over the Internet network.
3 . The method of claim 1 wherein the photo project is one of a photo book, a photo card, or a photo calendar and the photo product is one of a coffee mug, mouse pad, or a canvass print.
4 . The method of claim 1 wherein in step (d) recommendations to users are based on analyzed usage counts, friend relationships among the photo contributors, photo characteristics, or photo meta-data such as photo data.
5 . The method of claim 1 wherein recommendations are made by an asset recommendation system integrated with the GUI.
6 . The method of claim 5 wherein the asset recommendation system is a back-end data process.
7 . The method of claim 5 wherein in step (b) each photo has a score card.
8 . The method of claim 1 wherein in step (b), data includes in-depth page positioning information, photo usage information, and photo metadata.
9 . The method of claim 1 wherein in step (d), the one or more recommended products or versions thereof are presented in display in preview mode, the product views containing the recommended photos.
10 . The method of claim 1 wherein in step (b), photo tags, descriptions, and captions are weighted.
11 . The method of claim 1 wherein in step (b), images sizes are also considered for certain print products.
12 . The method of claim 1 wherein in step (d), the recommended photo spans more than one page in a project.
13 . The method of claim 1 wherein in step (d), the recommended product or products are offered as an up sell opportunity.
14 . The method of claim 1 wherein steps (a) through (d) are ongoing such that when a project is updated, the recommendation associated with the project may also be updated.
