Abstract

An improved polymerization and process method allows the production of special nitrile rubbers which are characterized by a specific anion content and an excellent storage stability and allow a particularly good vulcanization rate and moreover result in vulcanized materials that have advantageous properties, especially with regard to the contact with metal components of molded parts based on said vulcanized materials.

Claims (14)

1. A nitrile rubber comprising:

repeating units of at least one α,β-unsaturated nitrile,

repeating units of at least one conjugated diene, and wherein said nitrile rubber composition has a chlorine content in the range from 4 to 25 ppm based on the nitrile rubber.

2. The nitrile rubber according to claim 1 wherein said chlorine content is in the range from 5 to 23 ppm.

3. The nitrile rubber according to claim 1 wherein said repeating units of at least one α,β-unsaturated nitrile comprise acrylonitrile, and the repeating units of at least one conjugated diene comprise 1,3-butadiene.

4. The nitrile rubber according to claim 1 wherein said nitrile rubber comprises further repeating units of one or more α,β-unsaturated monocarboxylic or dicarboxylic acids, their esters and/or their amides.

5. The nitrile rubber according claim 1 , wherein said nitrile rubber has a Mooney viscosity (ML (1+4@100° C.)) of from 10 to 150 Mooney units.

6. The nitrile rubber according to claim 1 , wherein said nitrile rubber has a glass transition temperature in the range from −70° C. to +10° C.

7. The nitrile rubber according to claim 1 , comprising 2,2,4,6,6-pentamethylheptane-4-thio and/or 2,4,4,6,6-pentamethylheptane-2-thio and/or 2,3,4,6,6-pentamethylheptane-2-thio and/or 2,3,4,6,6-pentamethylheptane-3-thio end groups.

8. The nitrile rubber according to claim 1 , wherein said nitrile rubber comprises further repeating units of one or more further copolymerizable monomers.

9. The nitrile rubber according to claim 1 wherein said nitrile rubber comprises further repeating units of one or more alkyl ester(s) of an α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid.

10. The nitrile rubber according to claim 1 wherein said nitrile rubber comprises further repeating units of one or more methyl(meth)acrylate, ethyl(meth)acrylate, propyl(meth)acrylate, n-butyl(meth)acrylate, t-butyl(meth)acrylate, hexyl(meth)acrylate, 2-ethylhexyl(meth)acrylate, octyl(meth)acrylate or lauryl(meth)acrylate.

11. The nitrile rubber according claim 1 , wherein said nitrile rubber has a Mooney viscosity (ML (1+4@100° C.)) of from 20 to 100 Mooney units.

12. The nitrile rubber according to claim 1 , wherein said nitrile rubber has a glass transition temperature in the range from −60° C. to 0° C.
