Implantable drainage device
View Patent ↗An implantable drainage device is provided. The device is adapted to move body fluid from one part of the body of a patient to another part of the body.
1. An apparatus adapted for drainage of a body fluid in a body of a patient who is a human or a mammal patient, comprising:
a drainage device,
an energy source adapted to supply energy to said drainage device,
and
at least one connecting tube connected to said drainage device, the drainage device and the at least one connecting tube forming a drainage arrangement, wherein
the drainage arrangement is adapted to be implanted inside the body of the patient, and wherein said at least one connecting tube is adapted to interconnects a first part of the body with a second part of the body and said drainage device is adapted to suck body fluid from the first part of the body via the at least one connecting tube to the second part of the body, wherein
the drainage device comprises an expanding reservoir comprising:
a pre-tensioned bellows adapted to generate a suction and having an inlet with an inlet check valve and an outlet with an outlet return valve,
a member adapted to move the pre-tensioned bellows to expand to suck fluid,
and
a motor adapted to compress the pre-tensioned bellows and move fluid out of the pre-tensioned bellows, wherein
said drainage device is adapted to repeat sucking and moving of fluid, wherein said drainage device is adapted to constantly suck fluid using a pre-tensioned load on the pre-tensioned bellows when not moving fluid to the second part of the body,
and wherein the apparatus adapted for drainage of a body fluid in a patient further comprises;
an internal control unit and a sensor, wherein the apparatus adapted for drainage of a body fluid in a patient is further adapted to send information from the sensor to the internal control unit to give feedback related to at least one of a functional parameter of the drainage device and a physical parameter of the patient, the internal control unit adapted to act in response to the information to regulate said drainage device (i) to compress the pre-tensioned bellows, and repeatedly move fluid out of the pre-tensioned bellows and (i) to control when to constantly suck fluid using the pre-tensioned load on the pre-tensioned bellows, while moving fluid to the second part of the body is stopped.
2. The apparatus for drainage of a body fluid in a patient according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one connecting tube is adapted to have a size, shape and configuration adapted to a specific treatment area of the first and/or the second part of the body.
3. The apparatus for drainage of a body fluid in a patient according to claim 1 , wherein said pre-tensioned load comprises a spring loaded by a motor.
4. The apparatus for drainage of a body fluid in a patient according to claim 1 , further comprising a second tube in a delivery area connected to the outlet of the pre-tensioned bellows for conveying fluid to the second part of the body.
5. The apparatus for drainage of a body fluid in a patient according to claim 4 , wherein the second tube in the delivery area is provided with a net structure sealed around the second tube.
6. The apparatus for drainage of a body fluid in a patient according to claim 4 , wherein the net structure is provided with holes having a diameter adapted to be overgrown by tissue.

The apparatus for drainage of a body fluid in a patient according to claim 3 , wherein said pre-tensioned bellows, having the pre-tensioned load comprising said spring being a passive spring, the apparatus for drainage of a body fluid in a human or mammal patient being adapted to move the pre-tensioned bellows to expand to suck from the inlet, wherein the motor is adapted to compress the bellow and move fluid out from the outlet and thereby pre-tensioning said spring, said drainage device further being adapted to repeat sucking and moving of fluid to constantly suck fluid when not moving fluid to the second part of the body.

The apparatus for drainage of a body fluid in a patient according to claim 1 , wherein the energy source comprises an internal energy source and an external energy source transmitting wireless energy, and wherein said apparatus for drainage of a body fluid in a human or mammal patient further comprises an energy transmitter transmitting wireless energy from the external energy source to charge said internal energy source, and wherein the apparatus for drainage of a body fluid in a human or mammal patient is further adapted to send feedback information from inside the body to outside thereof to give feedback related to any functional parameter of the drainage device or the physical parameter of the patient relating to the charge of said internal energy source.
9. The apparatus for drainage of a body fluid in a patient according to claim 1 , wherein the functional parameter of the device is correlated to a transfer of energy for charging the internal energy source.
10. The apparatus for drainage of a body fluid in a patient according to claim 8 , adapted to receive transmitted wireless ultra sonic, inductive, or light energy.
11. The apparatus for drainage of a body fluid in a human or mammal patient according to claim 8 , further comprising a feedback device adapted to transmit at least two different types of feedback information.
12. The apparatus for drainage of a body fluid in a patient according to claim 1 , comprising a backward release member adapted to generate a backward pressure of fluid or air in the at least one connecting tube adapted for removing or preventing an occlusion in the at least one connecting tube.
13. The apparatus for drainage of a body fluid in patient according to claim 12 , wherein said backward release member comprises a pre-pressurized reservoir of air and a valve adapted to release a puff of air in the at least one connecting tube.
14. The apparatus for drainage of a body fluid in a patient according to claim 12 , comprising a pump adapted to move fluid or air in the at least one connecting tube in a reversed direction.

The apparatus for drainage of a body fluid in a human or mammal patient according to claim 14 , further comprising a reservoir, said reservoir being pre-pressurized by said pump, the apparatus for drainage of a body fluid in a human or mammal patient further comprising a valve adapted to release a puff of fluid or air in the at least one connecting tube extending from the pre-pressurized reservoir when a pressure has reached a predetermined level.
16. The apparatus for drainage of a body fluid in a patient according to claim 1 , further comprising a wireless remote control, wherein the drainage device is adapted to non-invasively have any of its functions regulated by said wireless remote control.
17. The apparatus for drainage of a body fluid in a patient according to claim 1 , comprising a wireless energy transmitter, wherein the drainage device is adapted to non-invasively have any of its functions regulated by said wireless energy transmitter.
18. The apparatus for drainage of a body fluid in a patient according to claim 1 , further comprising a sensor sensing the physical parameter of the patient.
19. The apparatus for drainage of a body fluid in a patient according to claim 1 , further comprising a sensor sensing the functional parameter of the drainage device.
